Junior School

Years 7 to 9

Yr 9 Coordinator

We would like to officially welcome Daniel Ralston as our new Yr 9 Coordinator who will be replacing Emily Ezzy while she is on leave.  Yr 9 families would already be familiar with Daniel as he also holds the role of RAID Coordinator within the college. We know that he is keen to support all the Yr 9s as best he can, so feel free to contact him with any concerns or questions that you might have regarding your Yr 9 child.

Connect

Our Yr 7 & 8 Connect classes have had a focus on the significance and history of Reconciliation Week.  Yr 7s have also begun work on their Learning Jigsaw which encourages them to reflect on their learning throughout the year and evaluate different learning strategies. At the end of the year they will be bringing this home to present to you.

We had really positive feedback regarding our lesson on vaping with the Year 8s – both students and teachers gained a broader understanding of the issues and complexities surrounding the use of vapes.   In Yr 8, we will continue our focus on caring for ourselves and others with the commencement of our Mental Health Program this week which will be delivered by our fantastic Wellbeing Team.  This will run in place of  Live4Life this term as we wait for the availability of presenters.

Grade 6 Visits

In Week 5, our Transition Coordinator, Stephanie Matters, ran a very successful week of visits with students from local feeder schools.  They enjoyed sessions in Drama, Humanities, Arts, Science and Languages and gained some insight into the experiences of a secondary college student.  From our perspective, it was wonderful to get our first glimpse of many of our incoming Yr 7s for 2023.

Yr 8 Medieval Day

Yr 8 students enjoyed the opportunity in Week 5 to gain some hands-on experience of medieval weapons and clothing.  This made history come alive!

Uniform

During the cooler months we are seeing  a number of students wearing the incorrect uniform, particularly hooded tops and other long-sleeved tops. Please be advised that the College uniform shop (Beleza) stocks a large range of uniform options for all students. Currently they have 5 different options for long sleeved tops/jumpers with all available for both male and female students.

The College understands that there may be rare occasions when students are out of expected school uniform and in these instances, they are asked to seek out the Year Level Leader / Junior School Administrator in the sub-school office before the start of Period 1, submit their parental note and gain a uniform pass.  If families need assistance with uniform, please contact the school to discuss the options available.   Over the coming weeks,  Junior School will be conducting regular uniform checks to ensure we maintain the highest standards with regards to how students are presenting to learn.  We appreciate your support with these expectations.

Year 7 Textiles

In the Yr 7 Textile classes, we are busy creating!

The students have been discovering what a pattern is  and learning about the design process.  They have investigated a variety of pattern types and generated their own options.  Their preferred option has been painted on to fabric.

The last step starts this week as they make their beautiful fabric into an item they can enjoy, hopefully for a long time.
