German Excursion
Guten Tag! After a term of studying the topic Food, the Year 10 German elective class went on an excursion to a German restaurant in Wetherill Park called The Bavarian.
There, they were able to show off their new language skills, including how to order food and drinks from a menu, how to describe the taste of different food and drinks, and how to ask for the bill.
They were also able to participate in German cultural practices regarding food, such as saying Guten Appetit (German version of the French phrase Bon Appétit) at the beginning of the meal, and eating ALL food with a fork and knife.
Now for the part everyone is most interested in – what we ate.
For the entrée, we all had giant pretzels with butter. As you can probably imagine, eating these with a knife and fork presented a considerable challenge, but we gave it our best shot anyway.
For the main meal, half of us had crispy pork knuckle with potato mash and sauerkraut. The other half had chicken schnitzel with fries and mushroom sauce. Both meals were extremely lecker (tasty). What do you think you would choose?
At this point we were already pretty stuffed but, as they say, there’s always room for dessert. This occasion was, of course, no exception, with us readily eating our apple strudel topped with cinnamon, walnuts, raisins, and vanilla ice cream.
Mmm, all this food talk is making me hungry, so I might wrap up this article so I can go grab a bite to eat. Please stay tuned to see what else the German elective class takes part in over the remainder of the year.
Tschüss! (Bye!)
Educational Pathways Program (EPP)
Evans recently attended a special opportunity for female students with an interest in technology at the Commonwealth Bank’s, ‘Girls in tech’ Expo! Students in Year 10 and 11 students were presented to by leading women in the STEM industry from the ACCENTURE, ATLASSIAN, CBA (Communications and Cyber security) as well as engaged in an interactive hands-on exhibition at the CBA headquarters.
Highlights of the day was the UNSW virtual reality (VR) that miniaturised the user to a size that is a thousand times smaller than the width of a human hair and placed students inside a human cell. Students also tested new software from CANVA, explored STEM careers with Refraction Media and explored a range of Artificial Intelligence experiences with Telstra’s ‘humanoid’ robots!!!
Special thank you to Evans Careers Adviser, Mrs Newsome who drove the school bus and Evans High School for their ongoing support making this free opportunity possible.
