Year Adviser News

Amyleigh Elliot - Year 7 Year Adviser

Year 7 have had a wonderful start to their journey as high school students. Term one saw them find their feet at Evans High School and form some really strong friendships with each other. They completed their first round of assessments and assignments for their subjects with great enthusiasm and have produced some very pleasing work as a result of this.

Term 2 has started as another exciting term for year 7 who have been participating in Peer Support where they have been able to work with our Year 10 student leaders, last week saw them look at healthy relationships and how to help a friend in need. Alongside Peer Support, Year 7 have also been participating in weekly wellbeing sessions run by the wonderful team from Blacktown Area Community Centres who have a range of themes they will be addressing with year 7 including nutrition and online safety to name a few.

Year 7 have also just completed their NAPLAN assessments and deserve to be commended for their attitudes and behaviour with these exams as they all acted with great maturity and focus, they certainly did Mr Sondaar and Myself proud. The rest of the term is shaping up to be just as wonderful as the start with excursions and carnivals coming up, I can't wait to see how year 7 continue to thrive at Evans.

Gemma Hanlon - Year 9 Year Adviser

Year 9 students have been working hard academically and have been able to represent Evans High School at several different events. In week 2, we saw Tegan, Varun and Fana compete in the Blacktown Zone Cross Country event.

Year 9 have been enjoying their electives with several students cooking, creating pieces of work in woodwork and metal work, studying commerce and history elective, and participating in a range of sports during PASS.

During week 4, Year 9 completed their final NAPLAN assessments, with all students behaving exceptional throughout. Week 5 sees them undertake their half-yearly exams for a number of subjects. The timetable for this can be found on our Year 9 Year Meetings google classroom.

A reminder to all students, that the homework centre is up and running again for this term. Every Tuesday morning from 7:30-8:30 and every Thursday afternoon from 2:45-4:45. If you would like a permission note please come and see me in the PDHPE staffroom. The uniform shop is also open on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for all your uniform needs.

Mr Kumar and I are extremely proud of all the students in year 9 and encourage them to continue working hard in achieving their goals for 2022.

Rhys Murphy - Year 11 Year Adviser

Term Two has gotten off to a fast start amongst the Year 11 cohort. Students have been busily working away at their half-yearly examinations, and the feedback from their teachers has been overwhelmingly positive.

As we move towards the end of the first semester there are a few things that you will need to keep an eye out for. Firstly, Year 11 and 12 Parent/Teacher Evening will be happening towards the end of the term. This is a chance for you to meet with the teachers of your child or ward to discuss their learning. You will also be able to pick up their half-yearly reports on this night. Further information around booking spaces will be sent out shortly, so please keep an eye on our social media channels for more information.

In the coming weeks, students will have the opportunity to purchase a leavers garment (school jacket) for the Class of 2023. These are always extremely popular amongst the cohort, the link for online purchase will be sent out as soon as students have had their jacket fitted. Purchase is not compulsory, but it is a nice keepsake that students will have to remember their schooling.

Our annual World Refugee Day celebration is happening over the course of Week 9 this term. Students are encouraged to wear their cultural dress and participate in the delicious multicultural food fair. World Refugee Day will be one of the best events on the Evans School Calendar and we can't wait to share this event with our students and community.

As always, drop me a line by phone or email if you have any questions or concerns about anything! I look forward to hearing from you all over the course of the year.
