“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and will be repaid in full”

Proverbs 19:17

Dearest Marian Community,

I hope that this past fortnight has been a pleasant one full of enjoyable and uplifting experiences.

Our College Faith and Service community has been flourishing with many of our students participating in various opportunities that are regularly made available to them. The increased assistance has been valuable particularly for Carevan, emptying the plastic bottle recycling cages, and the radio club restarting within the coming weeks. Witnessing these students within our College taking an active approach shows that they are truly living our College motto; The Way, The Truth, The Life.

I-Care Kits 2022

As I mentioned in my previous compass notification, our College service project is the creation of the I-Care Kits. So far, many students have begun to bring their items to school to contribute to the creation of the I-Care Kits. After two weeks of collection, we have already had enough items brought in to begin assembling, with four kits already complete. With that said, we have a goal of creating fourty I-Care Kits this term and without the full support of the Marian Community, this cannot be achieved.

The following items are the required items for donation per year group:

The Community Action team will go around to each Homeroom and collect any item that is brought in by students. Please remember to submit all items to your homeroom teachers in the morning during Homeroom periods. You only need to donate once, if you wish to donate multiple items that is fine. The students from the Community Action Team will go around to Homerooms every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.

National Reconciliation Week/NAIDOC Week 2022

Preparations for our College celebration of NAIDOC Week have commenced with many members of the Community Action Team working behind the scenes to bring to life this special College celebration. More information on how you can be involved will be released within the next few weeks. The theme for NAIDOC Week 2022 is Get up!, Stand up!, Show up!. NAIDOC see this as an opportunity for all Australians to make a genuine commitment to the Indigenous people of our country. We look to work together towards something more than just acknowledgment and good intentions. NAIDOC Week this year challenges us to join together to Get up!, Stand up! Show up! to narrow the gap betweenaspiration and reality, good intent and outcome. If you have ideas or would like to contribute towards our celebrations of NAIDOC week, please come and see me.

This was National Reconciliation week, the National Reconciliation Week 2022 theme, “Be Brave. Make Change.” is a challenge to all Australians— individuals, families, communities, organisations and government—to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians. In line with National Reconciliation Week, we tried to live up to the challenge set of asking everyone to make change beginning with brave actions in their daily lives – where they live, work, play and socialise. In Homerooms, teachers led students in prayers that pay respect to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. On Thursday the 26th of May, students were shown the National apology that was delivered by former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. Students were made aware that National Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation. While this date carries great significance for the Stolen Generations and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, it is also commemorated by Australians right around the country.

Youth Mass

Sunday the 5th of June, students from year 9 and year 10 will be hosting our first youth mass for the year. After COVID has put a hold on our past opportunities to host a youth mass, we finally get the opportunity to this. It would be great to see our College support our students.

Date: Sunday 5th June

Location: Marcellin Hall - Marian Catholic College

Time: 9:00am

Bottle recycling cages

Over the past few weeks, we have noticed a few items that are not recyclable items making their way into these bins. Please remember that these cages are NOT rubbish bins. Our maintenance staff have provided many rubbish bins around our College for rubbish to go into. We understand that mistakes happen, but if we could work towards this as a College community, it would make the collection process much easier for our volunteer members.

Acceptable items are:

  • Water bottles
  • Cans

Marian as always, you have been sensational in giving back to the community over the past few weeks. Let’s continue to support each other, foster our strengths and grow as people living a life as the Lord intended for us. A life of love for all creation.
