Assistant Principal News

Last week I was fortunate to work with Dr Andrew Fuller, a renowned Clinical Psychologist who focuses on creating resilience in families, communities and schools. He also specialises on how students learn and how their educational outcomes can be improved. His work around the world has resulted in his leading research and strategies being rolled out within numerous schools. We are extremely pleased to be working closely with him and Dr Stephen Brown in the Parent Partnership Program that will be rolled out this year.

The program revolves around familiarising the students with their own Learning Strengths. We will be piloting this program with the Year 8 cohort who will undertake an online survey to determine how they ‘best learn’. Below is a table of the different learning strengths that can be identified.

This program is based on the premise that everyone's brain is different and when an individual understands their learning strengths, they are better equipped to thrive within the learning environment and by extension benefit their wellbeing!

Once the students have established their Learning Strengths we will be focussing specifically on two of the six Executive functions ( please see attachment below), Planning/decision making and emotional regulation. This focus will allow our students to hone in on these valuable skills and further enhance their ability to make solid academic progress, manage social situations and make well balanced decisions.

We invite all of our parents to join us in a zoom with Dr Andrew Fuller and other parents across the Wagga diocese from 6pm - 7pm on the 8th of June. This session will provide valuable insight for parents into the Learning Strengths and Executive Functions of their child and how the partnership between schools and parents can assist in enhancing these skills.

We hope we see you all there!

Yours in Learning,

Lora Segrave
