Visual Arts excursion to Banna Lane Mural Festival

May has been an exciting month for our Visual Artists. The students have been steadily working on Australian Art, proportion and portraits, famous Art Movements and “Modern Mona Lisas”. Keep your eyes peeled for some of these artworks in the next newsletter.

The annual Banna Lane Mural Festival was held earlier in the month and some students were treated to an educated tour of the existing murals and those “in the making”. We were intrigued to hear about the festival history, current logistics and the processes from the organiser Carrah Blumer and then the artists themselves. The Griffith artists included Di Tarr, Lisa Taliano and the Straight Lines Design team. Our students also got to ask questions of Melbourne artist Thomas Jackson and Wollongong artist Claire Loxton. Students loved the variety of approaches and artistic styles presented to them during the Banna Lane Mural tour.

Another exciting aspect of the festival was the projected student artworks at the “Lighting up the lane” Saturday evening event. Check out some of the awesome effects their work had on a different scale and at night! Well done to Year 7 and 8 artists!
