Grandparents Day Liturgy

What a beautiful morning we had celebrating our grandparents and elderly friends in the community.  I have included the lovely sentiments from children at St Joseph's for your enjoyment.

Lachie - Kindergarten

I love my nan and grandad because they are always kind. They help me when we cook together. We love making yummy scones!

Tayla - Year 1

I love my nan and pop because they make me beautiful dinners and desserts. My favourites are lasagna and cones with vanilla ice cream covered in sprinkles and chocolate syrup.

James - Year 2

I love my nan and pop because they are lovely. They buy me lego and sometimes they help me build with  my lego. I really love spending time with my nan and pop!

Billie - Year 3

My grandma is a fabulous cook. My favourite dishes she makes are lasagna, meatloaf and salmon pasts with creamy white sauce.

When we eat pancakes she puts way too much syrup and butter on them.

My other grandma has two cats and 1 dog. I love going to her house in Queensland and playing with her pets.

Opa (my grandad) is very funny. He picks amazing movies - better than going to a movie theatre if you can believe that!

My other grandad is very nice. I like scaring magpies out of the living room with him.

But the most important thing about my grandparents is the love we share.

Alex D - Year 4

My Nan, Nana, and my Pop are the best.. In my opinion!

My nana I’d say would be the best Italian cook. She makes carbonara that is better than restaurants. Her pizza rivals any take away pizza.

My Pop..well let’s just say when he tells a joke, nobody will laugh… until he laughs - we only laugh at his laugh!

My Nan is the best to hang out with. You will have dinner at 5pm and have desert. When 7pm comes, we sit down to have a chat and watch the news or the footy. She also has the coolest garden.

Olive - Year 5

I adore my Bob and Moyna - my favourite great grandparents by far because of the wonderful times we spend talking and laughing at morning tea, the times I do my goofy dances and acting - making them crack up, of course the stories we share and most importantly, the bond we grow.

Also, I must mention their amazing garden - it’s filled with a rainbow of colours and all the tasty fruits you can imagine. When you’re in the garden you can hear the little sparrows, finches, willy wag tails and wrens in their nests or at the birdbath. Their garden is magical to me and so are they!

Alex C - Year 6

I love my Nunnu because he has loads of movies to watch - he has so many that the cinemas fear him! I always love staying up late and watching movies with him. We always watch movies about wild animals. My Nunna is an awesome cook. Everytime I go to her place she cooks scrambled eggs for brunch. At Christmas and Easter she cooks the absolute best food. I love my Baka because she cooks the best cakes and I always help. Sometimes we make bread.

I love my Deda because he is an awesome photographer and I take photos with his camera a lot. After we take photos we look at them on the TV. These are memories I will cherish forever.

Prayer for Grandparents & the Elderly

Dear Lord

We give thanks for our grandparents and the elderly in the community.

Bless them with joy, good health and warmth of love.

May they always know how much they are loved, respected and cared for.

We ask this in your name,

Amen
