Glenelg Division Cross Country

On Monday a team of students travelled to Portland to participate in the GD Cross Country. Unfortunately we did not have a full team compete, however those who participated did an excellent job. Upon our arrival the weather looked promising as there was no wind and rain which was beneficial for all runners. Overall it was a outstanding day with everyone competing at their best level and having a great positive attitude.

A huge congratulations to Tilly Mason and Kyle Rhook who were announced as Age champions. Monivae came 2nd overall as well as in the Girls and Boys Aggregate. A big thankyou to Sarah for organising the day and Clinton Thomas and Mr. Johnson who came along to make the day possible.

Equestrian

Matilda Mason represented Monivae College at the Equestrian Victoria Interschool State Championships April 2022. She had outstanding success in an enormous and highly competitive field of up to 80 competitors. Her two horses are Rialto Rendezvous and Time Maker. Together with Time Maker she has qualified to represent TeamVIC at the Equestrian Australia National Interschool Championships to be held at the Sydney 2000 Olympic venue, the Sydney International Equestrian Centre, later in September. Her horse will be driven up to Sydney, over several days, whilst Matilda flies in to Sydney after contesting the Laser Run World Championships in Portugal.

Hockey

Hockey has kicked off this term and the committee are looking for some help with coaching and umpiring. If you have an interest in Hockey, and would like to support a great club please contact me and I will pass your details on. Without coaches/team managers and umpires, these competitions cannot run.

Wednesday night Soccer

Wednesday night soccer has also started this term. A huge thank you to Rachael Dettling who has volunteered to be the team manager for the Monivae 7 A side team. I look forward to hearing how the team is going each week.

Shout out………..!

MATILDA MASON – Modern Pentalon

Matilda will be representing Australia at the UIPM World Laser Run Championships in Lisbon, Portugal, in September this year. Pentathlon is an Olympic multi discipline sport where athletes compete for performances that convert to points in fencing, swimming, Showjumping and the final event is the Laser Run which is a combined run and laser shoot event. Athletes must get 5 hits on a precision target from 10m distance and then go on to complete a 600m run. This is repeated 3 times for Matilda’s age group and the winner is the first athlete over the finish line after all shoot and run sequences have been completed. The difficulty of shooting is increased by raising the athlete’s heart rate by the series of running.

Matilda trains 5 days per week at the Hamilton Olympic Swim Club, Hamilton Running Club, Casterton Little Athletics, Hamilton Pony Club and HILAC for Strength and Conditioning sessions through South West Academy of Sport. She competes throughout Victoria most weekends, and recently claimed the title of National U15 Champion at Modern Pentathlon Australia National Championships, winning the Youth Fencing poule against all competitors in U13, U15 and U17 age categories, and with PB’s in the Laser Run and 100m swim.  Matilda also holds consecutive 2021 and 2022 Modern Pentathlon Victoria State Titles in Pentathlon and in Pony Club Victoria Tetrathlon (a 4 discipline Pentathlon event (typically without the fencing). She is also the Individual National Sub. Junior Showjumping Champion (C Grade – 1m) and Individual Reserve National Champion Sub Junior Tetrathlon Female, with both teams taking our the National Team Champions and the TeamVic Sub. Junior Showjumping Team is a finalist in the upcoming Vic Sport Awards to be presented in Melbourne.

Matilda will travel with 13 team mates, their coaches Olympian Eszter Hortobagyi (Modern Pentathlon) and Adam Temesi and Team Manager and Performance & Pathways Director, Olympian Hannah Every-Hall (Rowing).

A fund has been set up to help with Matilda’s expenses to enable her to participate in the World Championships in Portugal, any donations would be greatly appreciated.
