Year 10 Careers Camp

Michael Harms

We were thrown into the Melbourne camp experience by starting off with the CBD Challenge. In groups, we had to go to 5 different locations around the CBD including the Eureka Skydeck.

That night we went to Melbourne University for the Careers dinner with 11 Old Collegians. Cal Kanoniuk was our guest speaker. He talked about not really knowing what he wanted to do at first, but by following his genuine interests eventually found his pathway. He now is the editor of the Cricket Australia website which has over 20 million viewers each year. The other Collegians shared their stories with us as well.

The following morning we participated in different career tours and workshops. Some of the choices were engineering at Vic. Uni, Horticulture at the Botanical Gardens, photography and visiting Old Collegian Will Ewing at his Brunswick Ballroom.

Thursday night was a fun night out on the town. We got to choose our own dinner at the Melbourne Central and from there we either chose to do Lazer tag, rock climbing or ten pin bowling where Mr. Molan shouted the group a drink. We also got an hour of free games at the Crown arcade.

Friday we went to the Careers and VCE expo at Caulfield Racecourse where 1000’s of students from around Victoria attended. It was a great opportunity to explore different career and study options.

Thank you to all the teachers who attended. We hope you enjoy the video.
