Alisa Houlihan

Disney’s High School Musical.

Rehearsals are well underway for this Year’s musical, however, there are still opportunities for your student to be involved.

This is a great opportunity for your student to learn stage confidence and performance skills. If your student would like to join in, they can still participate in the ensemble and in some of the non-singing roles.

We need students who can play basketball for some scenes and students that have gymnastic skills. If you would like to be involved, please contact Ms. Yarni Macalister by emailing ymacalister@monivae.vic.edu.au

Music Notes:

Caulfield Grammar Visit

On Friday May 6, we were again fortunate to have the staff and students from Caulfield Grammar visit Monivae on their Annual music tour.

Around 40 musicians and staff entertained our Year 7 students during Period 2 with a concert that featured their Intermediate and Senior stage bands.

Our students enjoyed hearing the Caulfield students demonstrate their amazing ensemble and improvisation skills as they presented a range of musical styles from Classic and Jazz standards to Blues and popular music.

They were also able to hear some more unusual instruments being played such as the double bass and the baritone saxophone.

During Period 3, the Year 7 students that are currently enrolled in Year 7 music, worked with the students and staff from Caulfield grammar in a workshop to develop skills on their instruments.

This workshop focused on improving tone and articulation as well as rhythm and note reading skills.

At the end of the period, the students from both schools came together to perform “Ode to Joy”.  As a large combined band it was amazing to hear the improvement in the skills of our students after the workshop.
