Cycle for Change

In March this year I had the privilege and pleasure to participate in a charity ride called Cycle 4 Change. The charity ride took place over four days in Tasmania. Day 1 we started from Launceston and rode west to St Helens. Day 2 saw us continue from St Helens and ride down along the east coast into Swansea. Hobart was our destination on Day 3 and Day 4 took us to the top of Mt Wellington via Kingston. All up, we rode 507 km with an elevation gain over 7000 m.

The purpose of the ride is to help break the cycle of neglect and abuse in the lives of primary aged children. Children who, of no fault of their own, find themselves them living in the foster care system. All funds raised go towards providing children all around Australia with an opportunity to attend a weeklong camp that is run by Southern Cross Kids Camps. The camps aim to provide children with a fresh perspective, new life skills and a hope for a brighter future. Click here for a highlight video of the ride.

At the end of the ride when discussing with other riders how our bodies were feeling after four days of big consecutive rides, I was surprised to find myself saying that my body felt perfectly fine. Upon reflection I realised that it had all come down to my training. I had followed a strict training program over the past 3 months and this had resulted in my body being physically prepared for the tough ride. This then made me think of our students completing a VCE subject. If you put the time and effort into your studies, studying and revising the work that has been covered in class, supporting one another and seeking help from your teachers, then you will be well placed to perform to the best of your abilities when the end of year exams come.

All up we raised $109,291 for the ride. If you’re in the position and would like to donate then please do so at https://sckc.org.au/
