It has been an action-packed Term 2 in the Languages Domain, and we are delighted to see so many extra-curricular activities up and running again. Both Chinese and German teachers organised several excursions and incursions to connect students’ language studies to real life experiences and boost student engagement and motivation.

Year 10 Chinese students went to Melbourne’s China Town to visit the Chinese Australian Museum and interview Chinese speakers.

Year 9 German students participated in an incursion showcasing their German skills as well their outfits in a fashion show. John Dai and Elliot Gibson have provided a short summary of the experiences.

Year 7 German students participated in an incursion to learn about the opportunities PASCH offers for German students at BHHS as well as significant cultural products and practices in German-speaking countries.

Returning to the classroom has opened up opportunities which many students missed out on over the extended lockdown period. Language teachers will continue to organise exciting activities beyond regular classroom activities. Year 8 German students will be heading to Queen Victoria Market during the first two weeks of Term 3 to learn about foods from German-speaking countries. Year 7 German students are encouraged to participate in the German Poetry Competition in Term 3. We are also keeping our fingers crossed that we could start planning international exchange activities soon. Watch this space for further information in the future.
