Principal Report

Brianna & Ian

We are excited about our very first Science Fair.

The Fair will be held on September 2nd at 9.00am in the gym. All families welcome

We are asking children to work on an entry that they can demonstrate at the Fair-

They can present a display on anything they wish but must be able to explain the Science behind the entry.

Children can work on their own or in a group. They are able to have adult assistance

Entries must not contain dangerous chemicals, live animals or fire.

Children need to set up and clean up their display on the day.

There will be tables for the children to set up on.

Children need to fill in an entry form to be checked before the event

I would encourage all children to participate and celebrate Science Week.

I am asking for parents to encourage children to participate and produce an entry at home

Book-week

We hope everyone enjoyed the fun dress -up today for Bookweek.  There were some amazing costumes.  Thanks parents for making such a great effort.

Where's Wally

It was easy finding Wally today.  There were so many around the school!!

Traffic Inspectors

As a result of neighbouring residents and  parents putting in complaints to the Wyndham City Council about our parents parking over drive ways and double parking when dropping of and picking up students, our school now has a red flag and Traffic Inspectors will be randomly coming to patrol our school taking photos and issue fines if necessary.

Below image and the attachment, Safe parking around school has been provided to us by the Wyndham City Council

I am asking for your co operation please do not park across our neighbours drive way or double park.

Also please do not allow students to cross the road from behind cars.  The cars driving on the road may not see them.  Please ensure that the children use the school crossing as this is the safest option for crossing the road.

Mum's Night

Our next Mum's night is on the 29th of August from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.  Please come to the art room for a fun activity.

Dad's Night

5th September 5:30pm to 6:30pm.  We are having a footy night provided by the North Melbourne Football  Club.  Please come along dressed to play football, and if you have a football please bring it along also.

Footy Day

Our first footy day is on 6th of September.  We will have a footy parade for each AFL club.  Children are allowed to come dressed in their favourite football teams or team colours.  I have plenty of St Kilda scarves if children would like one!

Reading

It is an expectation that children read every night at home.  We also love to hear from parents that they are also reading to their children each night.  It is a great way to develop a love of reading.

$200,000 Grant Application

We have been working hard writing a grant application for further playground equipment for our school.  We are hoping that the grant will be successful.

Attendance

It is so important for learning that children are at school everyday.  Children who miss a lot of school fall behind in their learning and it is really hard to catch up.

We recommend that family holidays should not be planned during the school term but rather over school holidays. Please try to avoid holidays in February when the school year starts.

A letter must be provided to the school advising us of the dates that your child(ren) will be away.  This applies for any extended leave during the year, it must be put in writing so that we can update our records accordingly.

Arriving at school on time

Please arrive at school by 8:40am ready to start the day.  If for any reason that your child is late please take them through the front office for a late pass so that compass can be updated of their arrival.

Step Awareness

To promote fitness and learning Dohertys Creek College and Live Well Clinic are working together to raise awareness of being active and counting steps.

Over the next few weeks we would love to see everyone count their steps and increase daily the amount of steps that you all do as a family. Fitness assists wellbeing as well as learning in the classroom.

The fitbits (device to count steps) are free and can be collected at Live Well Clinic, 451 Leakes Road, Truganina. Hours of operation at the clinic are:

  • Monday & Friday – 9am – 8pm
  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – 9am – 5:30pm
  • Saturday & Sunday – 9:30am – 5:30pm
