Unaccompanied Short-Term Exchange 2019 - 2020 (Germany)
Current Year 9 – 11 students of German who are interested in undertaking a 6 to 10 week short-term, private exchange to our Sister School, The Lessing Gymnasium in Uelzen, Germany should collect an application package from Maria Vagunda (mvagunda@friends.tas.edu.au). This requires students to address a series of selection criteria. Applicants will also be required to meet with an interview panel in Term 2. Successful applicants will begin orientation for this program following selection.
Staff do not accompany these short-term exchanges and parents are responsible for organising all travel arrangements. Expressions of interest close on Monday 6 May 2019.
NAPLAN Online 2019
Parents of students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will shortly receive detailed information via email regarding NAPLAN testing, which is scheduled between 14 – 24 May 2019. For the first time, the testing will be conducted online (with the exception of Year 3 Writing, which will still be paper-based).
High School students are encouraged to visit the public demonstration site, as practice questions here will allow familiarisation with the style of questions and the online tools used. High School students are required to have their own set of functioning headphones.
Morris students will be made familiar with the practice questions prior to the assessment at school. Morris students will be provided with headphones.
Year 9 Outdoor Education - Camp
Year 9 camp will be run in conjunction with the Connections Program in weeks one and two of next term. We thank students and families who have completed caremonkey forms promptly and for proactively contacting us with any considerations.
Just a reminder that all equipment loans will occur at Bell Street on the first day of the camp. Students can avoid last-minute stress by packing and seeking guidance early.
Year 10 Outdoor Education - Tassie Icon Program
On Saturday 13 April at 9am the Outdoor Education group will leave for Maria Island. Snorkelling in the marine reserve, ascent of Bishop and Clarke along with exploring the southern end of the Island by bike will be on the cards. The Outdoor Education class has prepared plans and resources for the program and this will assist in the exploration of Indigenous, natural, convict and contemporary aspects of the island. The group will return on Wednesday 17 April at 4pm.
Year 9 Connections Program
The first two weeks of Term 2 see the launch of our Year 9 Connections Program. Students divide their time between camp and school-based activities, which encourage students to ‘think beyond their classroom’ and make real-world links through service and team building activities. It is essential that all forms are completed and returned to the School as soon as possible before the last week of term to ensure placements can be confirmed; these can be found on the ‘Forms’ page of the Year 9 Connections Website. We also ask that both parents and students read the descriptions of all relevant activities to be adequately prepared with additional clothing and food requirements.
Any questions or queries can be directed to Tim Whelan (camp) and Esther and John Hoggart (School-based Connections week).
