Take note

General reminders

A few gentle reminders for the first day, week and term of school...

Traffic safety tips

The safety of all members of the College community is of paramount importance to us. We kindly ask that parents and carers be mindful of the drop-off and pick-up procedures outlined on our website here. Please also be reminded that Harrington Street is a 'no standing' zone and parking officers conduct random checks throughout the day.

Hand sanitising and hygiene practices

At St Mary's College we continue to be vigilant with practising good hand hygiene. Please ensure we each do our part by washing our hands thoroughly, maintaining physical distancing where possible, and using the hand sanitising stations provided at each entry and exit point to the College.

Children should not be sent to school if they feel unwell with cold or flu-like symptoms including fever, runny nose, cough, sore/itchy throat or shortness of breath. We also ask that visitors, parents and carers do not enter the College grounds if they are showing any sign of cold or flu.

Keeping our students safe

When visiting a student at College or kindly volunteering in classrooms or on excursion, did you know you are required by law to hold a Working with Vulnerable Persons registration card?

It is the responsibility of College staff to check your registration card if you wish to volunteer, visit or work at St Mary’s College and you may be refused entry if you do not have your registration card.

To apply for registration and for more information, please visit the Department of Justice website.

Reporting absentees

Parents and carers are asked to notify the College as early as possible (by no later than 8.30am) if their child is absent or will be late to school. The following are options that you can use:

Phone: Student Services Office 6108 2560

SMS: 0437 996 701

Email: stmarys@smc.tas.edu.au

Website: Complete the 'Report an Absence' form online here.

Unexplained absences will be followed up. If a student becomes unwell during the day, parents or carers will be contacted and asked to take their child home.

Is your child leaving during the day?

We understand that on occasions, students may need to leave school during class time. If your child must leave, it is necessary to notify the College. Parents and carers can inform the school, either by a signed diary note, a phone call or via an email to the College.

Students’ diaries must be signed by their teacher at time of leaving and must be presented to the office to sign out. Additionally, diary notes are to be signed by Homeroom teachers if the student is leaving before lunch or recess.

Students, please make sure you always sign in or out at Student Services when you arrive or leave the College during class hours.

Families on the Green

We extend a warm invitation to all families within the College community to 'Families on the Green', to be held on Tuesday 16 February on the College Green (top ground).

As our first major event for the 2021 school year, Families on the Green is a wonderful opportunity to welcome new and returning families to the St Mary's College community. It's a chance to meet and mingle with your child/ren's teachers and other parents and carers in a casual and relaxed environment, while enjoying a drink and bite to eat.

The event will run from 3.00pm-7.30pm (coinciding with the Junior School Information Afternoon and Senior School SEQTA Information Evening). A program of activities will be on offer to keep children and families entertained, while a complimentary barbecue and other refreshments will ensure hunger is kept at bay!

RSVP

Bookings are essential for catering and COVID-19 registration purposes. Please register your attendance and any dietary requirements by Tuesday 9 February 2021 via this link.

Volunteers needed

We are looking for generous parents and carers to help out with running the event (including manning food stalls, turning snags, setting up equipment and furniture).  If you have an hour or so to spare between 2.00pm-7.00pm and would like to sign up as a volunteer, please contact Kia Pelham as soon as possible. We appreciate any support or assistance that you can give!

We are so happy to welcome you and your child/ren to the St Mary's College Setup for Success milangkani program in 2021.
