The 7.5 Technology class was treated to some expert tuition last week when Year 11 students Hain Van Eyk and Ryan Simpson ran a lesson on sheep judging.

Hain holds the honour of Zone Champion in Livestock Judging and State Award Winner in Livestock Handling. He was ably assisted by Ryan who also has a wealth of experience with livestock.

Ryan and Hain prepared the lesson including draughting off a pen of sheep which they used to demonstrate aspects of sheep conformation. Each student in the 7.5 Tech class was then able to apply their new-found knowledge to make a presentation to the rest of the class.  All the students in the 7.5 Tech class were totally engaged. Hain and Ryan are to be commended for their organisation, maturity and willingness to help their young fellow students.

Well done everyone!

Textiles

The final Year 8 Textiles class for 2020 has completed their cushions! It is always great to see what designs they incorporate into their finished product.

VET

Year 11 Construction VET students where able to put their theoretical knowledge into context last week when they toured two houses under construction last week.

COVID-19 restrictions have impacted on the students’ opportunities to undertake Work Placement so the chance to relate all the textbook learning to the real world was very welcome.

P.S.

Of the six builders on the two sites visited, half of them did Construction VET when they were students at O’Connor.
