Ready for a New Year, New Start
Welcome to 2021! To families who are returning and those who are new to our community; welcome.
I am sure that most of us are hoping for a year with less disruption and uncertainty than 2020. This may be the case but for now we begin the year with continued focus on hygiene, cleaning and gatherings to continue to reduce the risk of COVID-19 to our community.
During our staff training days, we have welcomed new staff and also conducted important training. We have used the time to train teachers and teacher-aides about the impact of trauma on young people and how we can support them as adults at school, we also spent a full day with Educational Psychologist, Andrew Fuller who presented to teachers and teacher aides about what new research into the brain can tell us about how we learn and how this can be applied to the classroom to support students to reach their potential. For any parents who are interested, Andrew Fuller has an excellent website that has resources for parents, children and teachers – andrewfuller.com.au. Our final day was spent with all staff focussed on ensuring that Moama Anglican Grammar is a safe school and that we are all aware of our legal and moral obligations to protect children.
Sadly, Mr Matt Brown (History Teacher and Year 10 Coordinator) and Mrs Heather Brown (Year 4B Teacher) have let me know they are re-locating to Queensland and will finish their work at Moama Anglican Grammar early in Term 1. We are currently in the process of replacing them. We also temporarily farewell Marnie Anderson (School Reception) who has left for maternity leave.
We welcome to the school the following new staff:
Primary
Ms Angela Gregor – Year 1
Ms Kiralee Pascoe – Year 6
Ms Nici Deller – Head of Primary
Secondary
Ms Lisa Winding – Business Studies and HSIE Teacher
Ms Melinda Ford – Head of Mathematics
Ms Lauren Wood – Mathematics Teacher
Ms Jenna Hildebrand – English Teacher
Ms Gretl Schiller – Art Teacher
Degan Tomkins – PDHPE/Sport Trainee
Isabelle Polvere – Trainee Administration Officer
Emily Flanigan – School Counsellor
We also welcome Bronwen Quill back from maternity leave.
Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions or concerns. Education is a partnership between home and school and we rely on and appreciate communication with families to support our students.
