ANZAC Day
Last week in library sessions the students learnt about the significance of ANZAC Day and why we as a nation recognise and pay our respects on April 25th each year.
This year the students from 3 /4S with the support of Stephanie and Betty made a commemorative wreath out of carefully selected plants from our kitchen garden including olive branches (peace) rosemary (remembrance) and amaranth (originated from the Mediterranean area near Gallipoli). This wreath was displayed at assembly and then placed at the St. Kilda cenotaph on behalf of the school.
We thank the staff and students who also joined in at 10.30am to listen to the Last Post and participate in one minutes silence to pay their respects.
Lest We Forget.
The Importance of Reading Aloud to Children
Mem Fox is a much loved children's author who has captured many hearts and minds through her award winning children books which can be found in classroom libraries throughout the school.
The following is an interesting link to Mem Fox discussing capturing hearts and minds through literature.
In it Mem mentions a recent YouTube clip she made about the importance of reading aloud to chn ages 0 – 18 and beyond.

Parents' Footy Team
After an enforced absence in 2020, once again our parents' footy team will be taking part in the Bayside competition against dads and mums from our local schools in early September.
The competition began back in 2013 as a one-off game between the dads (and occasional mum) from St Kilda Park and Port Melbourne Primary School. Since then it has grown to also include over ten other schools and is a great day out at Murphy's Reserve in Port Melbourne.
If there are any parents keen to pull on the red, white and black and represent SKiPPS (and to meet some other parents) then training is taking place This Sunday 2nd May on the oval next door to school at 4pm. All parents are welcome to come along and join in.
