Term 4
As the term draws to a close, we are enjoying the fruits of our labour in the art room. Our participation in the Zoo’s Fighting Extinction Schools Showcase was a great success. It was a delight to see the contributions of other schools generating a wonderful sense of collegiality and cross fertilisation of ideas. We received positive feedback and praise, and in turn, celebrated the achievements of other schools.
In class we reflected on and shared ideas about what we can do with our families that helps to minimise, avoid or reverse environmental harm.
In years 3 – 6, a number of students designed contributions for the Respectful Relationships Poster competition demonstrating their understanding of the topic as well as a flair for graphic design and lettering. This coming week, the Junior students are concentrating on completing and refining existing projects in order to take them home. Our Senior students are completing an embroidery project that was started in Term 1 – creating freehand embroidery as well as template-based work. The Junior students have been completing their Yayoy Kusama inspired artwork, now drawing birds and practising to improve their scissor skills. We read a story ”Robyn Boid architect”, the bird, who loved to build things. This led to an investigation of building materials and their properties as we explored building with wood, cardboard and plastic and made both functional and sculptural pieces.
