Independence Centre

Curriculum
Selamat siang!
The Independence Centre have had an amazing week of learning and our onsite camp activities. We are so proud and impressed with the perseverance and growth mindset students demonstrated when they worked through each group activity. A huge congratulations to everyone who participated in the Talent Show, we have a very talented bunch!
In our Literacy sessions last week, the students begun learning about Reader’s Theatre and strategies of effective readers, when speaking aloud. They spent some time practising these skills together as a class, with our Independence Centre novel ‘The Glimme’ and then independently during our reading sessions. In Writing, we focused on creating detailed plans and backfills when writing our narratives. They used these steps to help create engaging and exciting narratives in our Big Write session.
Last week in Maths, students consolidated their place value understanding by playing some strategic games. It was great to see them show their understanding of place value and different strategies in their Seesaw portfolio tasks. You might like to ask your child to teach you one of the games we learnt this week!
In Guided Inquiry, the students investigated elasticity. We conducted a range of experiments comparing how high objects bounce when dropped from the same height.
On Thursday and Friday, we had a blast at our 3/4 Camp! Students were involved in team building, minute to win it, an escape room, hut building, sports games, Lego competitions, cooking, picture frame-making and our late stay. It was great to see everyone demonstrating teamwork, resilience and confidence as they tacked each new task! It was brilliant to see so many students perform in our talent show, we have a very talented and creative group of students!
