The Geelong Project 2021: Student Surveys

Western Heights College along with a number of other Geelong secondary schools are participants in The Geelong Project. The Geelong Project focuses on young people in school who may be experiencing a range of difficulties that puts them in a vulnerable state and at risk of becoming homeless or leaving school early. The project is being supported by The Department of Education, BCYF and Headspace, with support from the University of South Australia (UniSA).

Each year all students are invited to participate in the Australian Index of Adolescent Development Survey (AIAD) that is completed by every student in the participating high schools. The survey asks about your child/ren’s life at home and at school. It will take students approximately 20-30 minutes to complete the survey. The AIAD survey will be undertaken at school, during school hours.

This year the surveys will be completed during an extended mentor meeting on Wednesday February 17th. We encourage all students to participant as the information is useful in providing other wellbeing supports within and beyond the college. The Geelong Project staff analyse and collate the data with some students then being screened by TGP staff to determine any interventions to support their engagement.

Should you require more information, please do not hesitate to contact the college at info@whc.vic.edu.au.

EAL HOMEWORK CLUB

The WHC EAL Homework Club will begin again on Wednesday 3rd March in the library café space from 3:30 to 4:30pm. We will once again be supported by tutors from EdConnect and staff from WHC. The homework club is for students for whom English is not their first language and students are supported to complete homework across their range of subjects. If you are interested in coming along, please let your Learning Community Leaders know and they can pass on names to me. If you have any questions feel free to come and see me in the blue building. Looking forward to seeing you there!
