“Clay Gulgong” is a biennial “Arts” event that takes place in Gulgong, a town in the Central Tableland region of north-western New South Wales. Gulgong is globally recognised for its strong links to the field of ceramics. Due to the impact of COVID-19, the event could not take place in 2021 and was postponed until the start of this year. As part of this event, there had been a call-out to schools around the nation to submit images of up to five ceramic artworks from any year level for selection in an online art exhibition of student work. We are very pleased that the artwork from five of our students has been included in this online exhibition. The online gallery of student work can be viewed by accessing the following link, with artwork by Darcey Salter, Elijah Smith, Angelos Saragossi, Will Moon and Cruz Day, (all current Year 11 students), appearing on Slides 18 and 52. https://www.mansfieldceramics.com/clay-gulgong/k-12/

Year 10 Visual Art students have just commenced this same ceramic task which reflects a thematic approach combining the natural and built environments. The task involves the creation of a spherical form and has been inspired by the work of Indigenous artist Thancoupie (Dr Thancoupie Gloria Fletcher James of the Thanakwithi people of the western coast of Cape York Peninsula and founder of the Indigenous ceramics movement in Australia).
