Student Wellbeing for Engaging Literate Learners
GGSS kids are kind.
GGSS is continuing with our PBL commitment of providing a safe, responsible, respectful and disciplined learning environment for students and staff. Our students have opportunities to engage in quality learning journeys and acquire values supportive of their own life journey.
Following on from term 1 2022, we set two weekly PBL skills that align with our school expectations. The focus for the week is introduced in our assembly time and then modelled and explicitly taught throughout the week by staff. The students are then recognised in assemblies for their hard work in the week. This is done through Bee ribbons (bee token free and frequent) and our weekly Behaviour Award.
Videos are shared on our YouTube channel and on FaceBook for families to support appropriate behaviour at school.
We expect our students to practice the PBL focus, keeping in mind the skill focus from previous weeks. Our Behaviour Matrix supports an integrated approach to student wellbeing.
Our lessons for term 1 and 2 are below, the links to some of the video lessons have been added:
T1 - Week 7 - Focus: Be Respectful in our learning settings - Respect others right to learn and keep the classroom neat and tidy.
Week 8 - Focus: Be Responsible in our learning settings - Be an active learner and show attentive behaviour. Be prepared and willing to learn.
Week 9 - Focus: Be Respectful in all settings - Use Manners and take turns/make turns.
Week 10 - Focus: all expectations - Review the behaviour matrix.
T2 - Week 1 - Focus: all expectations - Review the behaviour matrix.
Week 2 - Focus: Be Safe in the eating area - Sit quietly and eat your own food.
Week 3 - Focus: Be Respectful in all settings - Wear our full school uniform.
If any of our Grove parents would like to be part of our PBL team please let Michele Lyne or Hayley Freemantle know. We meet twice a term to discuss the PBL happenings at the Grove.
Already this year, as a community, we have experienced some huge disruptions and impactful events including flooding, COVID interruptions and the passing of a much loved and admired staff member. These experiences have been particularly challenging for the mental health of everyone, especially children. Managing your child’s emotions during a time when you are also facing new challenges yourself can be even more difficult to navigate – helping your child manage their emotions isn’t always easy. Visit https://blog.smilingmind.com.au/navigating-emotions-with-your-child for more information about how you can support your child to manage their emotions.
