ASSUMPTION MASS
Last week on Monday 15th August we celebrated the Feast of the Assumption with Mater Dei Primary School. The Mass was held in our College Hall and was concelebrated by Bishop Hanna, Archbishop Carroll and Fr John Baptist. This was a symbolic ceremony and most appropriate for the two schools to come together to celebrate under their patron, Mary, Mother of God. With such reverence and unity shown by both communities, we look forward to future celebrations together. Farewell Bishop Hanna.
YOUR CHOICEZ
This week Dave from ‘Your Choicez’ visited the College to talk with our Year 10 students regarding sexual decision making, relationships, body image, pornography, the online society and many more important issues that teenagers are facing today.
Thanks to Dave for once again empowering our students to be their best self and reflect on the choices they make!
NAGLE EDUCATION ALLIANCE AUSTRALIA (NEAA) LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
On the 9th of August, Grace McLachlan, Anna Ryan, Holli Amos and I traveled to Avila College in Melbourne to attend the NEAA (Nagle Education Alliance Australia) student leadership conference. We spent three days at the conference and were encouraged to step of our comfort zones and meet students from other Presentation Schools in Australia.
We all agreed that our favourite parts of the conference were, working on Slam Poetry Emilie Zoey Baker or EZB as she prefers to be called, making care packages for the less fortunate of Melbourne and writing St Vincent de Paul hands to be given out to refugees in the Nauru detention centre.
Although these were our favourite sessions, we had many memorable experiences including the conference welcome which consisted of get-to-know-you games and doing aerobics to a Richard Simmons youtube clip, listening to Olivia Dawson speak about being a young Presentation person and being involved with the United Nations, and meeting the Honourable Justice Sharon Johns and hearing her many stories of the law and life after leaving Avila and how her schooling had impacted on her life. Holli, Anna, Grace and I also enjoyed our opportunity to go into the City of Melbourne.
We are very thankful to have been selected for this conference by our school, to Miss Rebecca Michel who attended the conference with us and made this excursion possible, and to Avila College for hosting us so graciously. It was an experience that will not be forgotten and I encourage all future year 10 girls, when presented with this opportunity, to not resist applying.
