Report from Ms Paul

YEAR 5 PRIMARY SCHOOL VISITS

In Weeks 3 and 4 of this term we hosted our annual Year 5 Visits. These days are an opportunity for students across our region to experience a day in the life of a High School student at Mater Dei. Students were exposed to lessons in Science, Cooking, Woodwork, PDHPE and Art. Our current Year 7 students were the guides on each of these days and did an incredible job in leading the Year 5 students throughout each of the activities.

A huge thank you to Mr Hope who facilitated the days, as well Mrs Baggio who assisted in the organisation. Thank you to each of the teachers and support staff who were involved in preparing and running the activities that showcased the many opportunities offered to students at Mater Dei and offering these to the wider community.

This day also marked the celebration of Mater Dei Day. In true Mater Dei tradition all Homegroups came together after lunch to compete in the Annual Mater Dei Day Trivia Competition. Congratulations to Kennedy 4 who finished 1st on the day, just 1 point ahead of both Carroll 1, Carroll 7 and Carroll 8.

HOMEGROUP/HOUSE PARENTS AND CARERS SURVEY

Today all parents and carers have been emailed a link to a survey to collect feedback on the Homegroup and House structure at the College. This feedback will provide further insight into our future direction and planning at the College. We encourage all parents and carers to take the time to complete the survey and thank you for your input in anticipation.  The survey will close on Friday 2 September 2016.

CURRENT LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

All students are encouraged to take on the opportunities provided at Mater Dei Catholic College to grow their leadership skills and realise their leadership potential.

Opportunities continue to be provided for students across all year groups. The most recent opportunities are listed below.

UN YOUTH ACT REGIONAL CONFERENCE

UN Youth ACT is extremely excited to be holding their first ever Regional Conference in Wagga Wagga on the 9 September. The conference is open to students in Years 9 and 10 and will give students the opportunity to express their own views and find their voices on issues that matter to them.

The theme for the day conferences is “Human Rights and Conflict at Home and Abroad.” By exploring what rights we are entitled to and what rights we afford others, students will be better equipped to critically analyse the world around them and make informed decisions.

Expressions of interest are to be forwarded to Mrs Chandler this week.

TAKE CHARGE YOUTH RIVERINA YOUTH LEADERSHIP FORUM

Students in Years 8 and 9 are invited to apply to attend the Take Charge fourth annual Riverina Youth  Forum held at CSU on Wednesday 21 September.

The forum will consist of a series of leading guest speakers and capacity building workshops. This year the ACT’s 2016 Youth Australian of the Year as well as the Winner of the ABC’s Heywire competition are just some of the special guests.

To be considered to attend please email Ms Paul by Friday 2 September (Week 7).
