John XXIII Rowing Club

Rowing Camp

Congratulations to all rowers who took part in our Training Camp over the holidays. It was fantastic to see students push themselves physically and work together with their crews and coaches.  The camp was a great opportunity for rowers to build confidence within their smaller crews, whilst also building personal fitness and stamina. Although the sport of rowing occurs in a boat, all athletes must have a sound base fitness. It is this base fitness that allows athletes to further push themselves in their chosen discipline.

All rowers are advised to continue to develop their cardiovascular endurance. There are many avenues within the College that you may wish to explore this including cross-country training and coming up, our athletics training.

Many thanks to the coaches who assisted throughout the camp and to the wonderful JTC staff who came down to assist with supervision.

Lastly, thank you to our parent helpers who came each day to assist with breakfast and lunch and MJ Rowbottom who helped throughout the first term with food orders and preparation for camp and Saturday trainings.

Captain of Boats

After a rigorous selection process of written applications, interviews and voting, it is with great pleasure that I announce the following rowers in our Leadership Team.

Congratulations Jemima Broderick (Captain of Boats), Jacob Griffiths and Lara Sivwright (Vice Captain of Boats).

Many thanks to all rowers with your contribution to this process and we look forward to watching our leadership team flourish in their roles promoting advocating for a successful and inclusive program.

Saturday 30 April  – Boys Rowing Training

This Saturday will be our last Saturday training session as our regatta season will be in full swing for the reminder of this Term and Term 3.

7 May  – IGSSA Regatta #1

Wishing all our female rowers the best of luck in their first IGSSA Regatta of the year. A reminder that the bus will be leaving the College at 6:20am. It is an expectation that all female rowers will travel as a squad to the regatta’s together and will also return by College bus back to the sheds for pack up. If you are unable to travel with the team or assist with pack up, please email me asap. I understand that there will be clashes throughout the season, particularly with netball. We support the busy lifestyle of our rowers, however, communication assists greatly and all in attendance for the entire regatta is expected.

Rowers can be collected from the sheds anytime from 1:30pm onwards.

Bunbury Medal Presentation

Congratulations on the haul of medals that were successfully won at the South West Head of the River in March. Students received their medals during school this week. Well done to all.

Our Year 12’s were very happy to receive their Year 12 Rowing Hoodies – a reminder that this hoodie is not part of our official school uniform and should not be worn in place of your PE uniform or Academic Blazer

I would like to take this opportunity to place Claire Woolfitt in our thoughts and prayers as she begins her health journey. May Claire feel the love and support of our College and Rowing community during this time.
