Victorian State Schools Spectacular
Saturday 10 September
This year, seventeen students from our school are lucky to participate in the Victorian State Schools Spectacular, an annual singing and dancing performance by schools from all over the state.
Every Thursday at lunchtime, our group of Grade 5s and 6s meet in the Hall to practise. Led by Miss Misso and Ms Lightfoot, we rehearse the six dances that will be performed on the night.
They are:
So far, we have learned half of every dance. In addition to the weekly lunchtime rehearsals, we also have four major whole-day rehearsals at Oakleigh South Primary School, which are set at various points throughout the year. During these, we meet with about five other schools in our area to practise. We have so far been to the first of these four rehearsals, and it was fantastic. It was great to meet students from the other schools, and we made friends while learning the dances.
The Victorian State Schools Spectacular celebrates talent in our schools. Every year, almost all the schools in Victoria collaborate to organise this unique event. State school students from Years 5 - 12 all come together for one night to sing and dance our hearts out. This year, the State Schools Spectacular will happen on Saturday, September 10th. We are all so excited!
We would like to say a big thank you to Miss Misso and Ms Lightfoot, who have given up much of their own time to teach us these dances to prepare for the Spectacular. They support us every rehearsal, they are humorous and upbeat, and always bring so much energy with them.
We will bring you regular updates on how we are going.
