We have some very modest children who have written about their experiences in our District, Division and Region events. To trial for a school team and then spend almost a whole day playing tennis (up to 6 games for some), or swimming against some of the fastest in their age group within Victoria is quite the special achievement.
Representing EHPS at the Mulgrave District tennis competition on Monday 21 March at PLC:
District tennis was a great experience, getting to participate in the tournament was an exception itself. Being able to hit a ball with someone from another school was also my first time. I was really excited about the day. Overall I had a really fun and it was great to go to. Ethan Q, 6C
Ethan had the longest games of the day.
District tennis was a really fun opportunity to have. It was really fun to play with other schools and I was feeling really happy to hit the ball and play tennis. I had a really fun and exciting day. Tihana R, 5L
Tihana didn’t drop a point all day, she has been invited to play in the Monash Waverley Division tennis competition on Wednesday 4 May.
At the start of March, we participated in trials to decide who would represent Essex Heights at the District tennis competition. The trials were very tough but I made it through to represent the school. It was a lot of fun to play and compete against my school friends. On Monday 21st March 3 boys and 1 girl represented Essex Heights at the Mulgrave district tennis competition being Ethan Q, Eric C, Tihana and myself. It was held at PLC college and I was in the boys competition which had 3 pools of 5 players each from schools such as Mount View, Mount Waverley, PLC and Glendal. The standard was very high and very challenging for myself as grade 4 competing mainly against grade 6’s but I was lucky to win through to the play-off rounds after coming 2nd in my group with 3 wins and 1 loss, but unfortunately I lost my play-off match and missed out on going to District finals. I was nervous for the day but excited to play tennis for the school. I tried my best and learnt a lot and am looking forward to coming back next year and trying again.

Representing EHPS at the Eastern Metropolitan Region swimming carnival on Friday 25 March at Aquanation in Ringwood:
It has been a great start of the year as I had a great swimming carnival competing with other schools. I was representing the EHPS in several events in District, Division, and Region swimming carnival. I was so overwhelmed that there were some fantastic swimming result with my personal best times. For me, it was important that I could represent my school at the last year of primary school. This was a unforgettable and special experience for me to be part of my school.
As a squad swimmer, I have been training every six times a week for personal best records. My coach pushes me to my limit to become a great swimmer. Sometimes I feel disappointed when I don't get my personal best record. However, my coach always encourages me not to give up. I love swimming so I won't stop learning and improving myself to become the best. Ethan L, 6CH
Boyd House Captains, Alysha H and Heidi H, share their experiences of Inter-school Sports:
What an experience it has been competing in the Inter-school sport events! I still can’t believe how far I’ve come in my self-confidence and resilience. The girls softball team has had its ups and downs. Sometimes we would have a really good win, and sometimes we would have an unfortunate loss. Whether we won or lost, the team was always so supportive and encouraging. I also made a couple of new friends who I am very grateful for.
Of course, I have to thank our amazing coach, Ms Steward. We couldn’t have done it without her. She taught us so much and therefore, I would like to give a big thanks to her. I have learnt a lot this term and I can’t wait to start playing again.

So far, Inter-school sports has been an incredible experience. I am extremely grateful that this sporting event has been able to go ahead each week. It is always so exciting walking onto the oval on Friday mornings and seeing everyone in their sports uniforms, ready to compete.
The Hot Shots team have lost a few, but won many games against other schools. We all show great team spirit and cheer one another on regardless of the result. On behalf of the Hot Shots team we thank our coach, Mr Tang. He has been such an inspiration towards everyone and we are all so lucky to have him! Being an Inter-school sports team has made us all more mature, confident and responsible.

Round 5 Report - Friday 25 March
During the six weeks of Summer ISS I have learnt a lot about things to do during sports. To be a good sports player, you need to respect your opponents and be friendly. Sports isn’t always very competitive, we were just playing for fun. You also have to be honest during games, knowing if you’re out or not. Encouragement can also really help your teammates out. Discouragement and telling your teammates what to do can really stress them out. Giving up is also not the way to play, you need to be persistent.
I believe the Summer ISS really helped me to be a better sports player, and I know that it helped others too. This is also a great opportunity to try new sports, not just what you’re good at. The Summer ISS is really great activity to train your sportsmanship. I had lots of fun during these six weeks, and I am looking forward to Winter ISS.

Round 6 Report - Friday 1 April
Good afternoon, my name is Daniel and I am in the Softball A mixed team, I will be talking about my experience and what I learnt from my match today, the softball mixed team played Mount View’s Gold team. My team and I were very excited as this was the second last match of term 1. We were all cheering us on when we got there as we made our way to the softball pitch.
We all tried our best throughout the match and had a lot of fun, the umpire was very fair with the balls and strikes Even though he was the coach for Mount View Gold team. We lost the match and Mount View scored 13 home and Essex Heights scored 9 home runs. In all, even though we lost I think everyone had an awesome time and learnt to respect and be kind to the opposing team.
