REMINDERS
Home Learning: Thank you for your ongoing support with Home learning. Please continue to encourage and support students to complete weekly home learning tasks. It has been great to see online mathematics tasks being completed at home, which has assisted students to challenge themselves and gain more confidence.
Toilet Breaks: Please continue to speak with your child about toilet breaks and the importance of them going before school, during recess and lunch times to avoid missing out on valuable learning time.
Fruit/Veggie breaks: Students are encouraged to eat fruit and healthy snacks throughout the day. Breaks occur in all classes at different times throughout the day, depending on the class needs. It is important to remember that only fruit/veggies are to be eaten at this time.
Communication with the Teacher:
If you need to speak with a teacher, we encourage you to make an appointment which can be made through SeeSaw or by contacting the teacher by phoning the office.
Non urgent messages can be sent on Seesaw. This can be a good way to pass across quick information or ask questions. Please also be mindful that teachers will endeavour to respond to messages within 48 hours. Checking of messages and posting of announcements will be done as often as possible on weekdays between 8:30am and 5:00pm. Urgent messages are best to be called through to the school office.
Tissues: Please provide a box of tissues for your child to use in class. Thank you if you have already done so.
Celebrating our Learning in English
Reading
As readers this term, we have continued to establish positive reading behaviours such as reading every day and using the classroom / school library to choose ‘Just Right’ books. Regular Conferencing with our teacher has enabled us to set goals and improve our reading behaviours.
We have been making connections in our reading to other texts, ourselves and the world. We have also been learning about nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs & adverbs.
Writing
As writers, we have established positive writing behaviours such as writing for a purpose everyday. We have used our Writer’s Notebook to collect ideas and thoughts. We have been working on our Narrative Writing, and have written some fabulous stories.
Through the SMART spelling program we have learnt to spell words correctly by paying attention to a variety of digraphs and trigraphs.
Celebrating our Learning in Mathematics
As mathematicians, we have developed a deeper understanding of number and place value. We have been doing a lot of work on Time, Place Value, Area and Length. On Wednesday the 23rd of March we enjoyed World Maths Day. We engaged in many hands-on and practical mathematics learning tasks.
Celebrating our Learning in Wellbeing
This term we have worked collaboratively to create our Essential Agreements and participated in many activities and discussions around classroom expectations. We have been accountable for our actions and developed agreed upon consequences created in the Year 3 Essential Agreement.
We really enjoyed celebrating Harmony Week and national day against bullying and violence where we read the stories and created meaningful posters and displays.
The introduction of the weekly Excellence and Citizenship award has seen many students attending assembly and being recognised for their achievements throughout this term. Well done to all the Year 3 students who have received an award this term and continually display the school values.
Well Done!
Specialist Classes
PERFORMING ARTS
Grade 3 students have been successful in their learning of music notation, showing that they can read music on a musical stave. They are excited to be taking this learning into next term when they will be learning to play recorders. Stay tuned for information about purchasing a recorder!
JAPANESE
This term as Year 3 Learners of Japanese we learnt to say many popular hobbies in Japanese. We then used our knowledge to create sentences about what our hobbies are and what we are good at. We began our Hiragana recognition journey (Japanese Alphabet) which we will continue throughout the year.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Grade 3 students have been focussed on Athletics and fitness activities this term. Students have been introduced to a variety of new events such as high jump, hurdles, discus and shot put. We held our Athletic sports where students participated in a variety of events. Running long distance was also a feature of this term.
