INTERSCHOOL SPORT

Congratulations to all of the BSC Year 7 & 8 Interschool Sports Teams.

The cohorts really stepped up to the competition this term - with a significant number of students taking part.  BSC fielded soccer, netball,  badminton and AFL teams and all of them exhibited team pride and excellent sportsmanship.

So often in the sporting arena we see our students endeavouring to achieve their best - learning and drawing upon our important school values of responsibility, persistence, teamwork, respect, achievement and excellence.  This learning is translated across all areas of study so we are very pleased to  see our students embracing and ‘living’ these school values in sporting competition.

The Year 7 students have been exemplary ambassadors for the college throughout the competition and should be very proud of their efforts.

As a bonus,  several of our Year 7 teams were successful  at the interschool meet and will now be competing at Regional level! These include the Year 7 Boys AFL team, Year 7 Boys Soccer team and Year 7 Boys Netball team.  It goes to show that working together can produce great results!  We will be cheering them on to do their best - look out for news in upcoming editions!

Year 7 - AFL

We  went to Princes Park and played 3 AFL teams  - Fitzroy, Uni High and Princes Hill. We won all three games, all by over 10 points. We did a lot better than we thought we would and are now going to the regional finals! A lot of our players had not played football before, but they picked up the game well during training. Everyone was excited that we made it through to the next level.

Year 8 - Girls AFL Combined

I really enjoy playing AFL as it gives me confidence and helps to strive and try new things. Being on the football field is exhilarating and I love to play. This interschool competition was an amazing experience to play teams of the same ability and even get the chance to win despite the majority of our team being new to the sport. It was a great day out and I would recommend it to anyone who was interested in doing football next year.

Year 7

Last Friday, our year 7 students went to a sport of their choosing and many of us chose badminton. Badminton is a simple game played as singles (between 2 people) or doubles (between 2 teams of 2 players each). You hit a shuttlecock over a net to another player(s). Basically, it’s like tennis.

We had 3 different categories to play in: Social, Competitive or A Team. In Social or Competitive you just play for fun, but  the A Team had a chance to go to the next level which is Regional competition.  We played at the University of Melbourne’s Sport and Recreation hall and we were joined by two other schools – Fitzroy High and University High School. We had a great day!

We had a great time at interschool sport!

We were very disappointed because we won all of our games - except the last one, when we were beaten by a very good player from University High.

This year, BSC had five teams entered into the Year 7 interschool netball competition.  This is the highest ever number of teams fielded - setting a record!  The two boys teams and three girls teams put in their best efforts against some tough competitors from our local region. The Brunswick Boys B team managed to come away victorious, beating not only University High School and Fitzroy High School but also the Brunswick A team! The B team (who have now re-named themselves the New A team) showed excellent teamwork and communication throughout all their games and say that this was the contributing factor in their success.

We had plenty of time to practice before our games. We then found out who we were playing and that we were in the B team. We started discussing positions and individual strengths of the players. We played three games and we won all three!

Year 7 - Netball

We worked really well together and were very organised. I played Wing Attack because I am good at passing. We practiced a lot to prepare for the games, and used the tactics that we practiced. They worked very well.

Year 7 - Netball

The key skills that we used in the practice sessions and the games were teamwork, organisation and respect. We listened to each other and put people into positions they enjoyed. It was good to experience the day with friends because we were able to listen to each other and get feedback from each other.

Year 7 - Netball

We won all  our 3 games! Some teams doubted us because we were the B team, and B teams generally don't win the competitions... but WE did!

We won one game by nine goals (10-1). Our teamwork was amazing; we worked so well together. When we won  against them, the other BSC team were nice to us.

Year 7 - Netball

We played 5 teams. I was in the A team and we won 2 games, and lost 3 games. We played really well due to strong teamwork and support for each other. Overall it was a  fun day because we got to play our favourite sport all day!
