I attended the North-West Region Principal’s Forum on Monday 26 June and Tuesday 27 June.  The Department of Education and Training ran four forums, one for each Victorian region, at the Melbourne Exhibition and Conference Centre.   There were a number of keynote presenters who provided evidence-based examples of system-wide improvement, mainly in London schools and schools in the province of Ontario in Canada.   Victorian schools have a state-wide commitment to collective responsibility to improve student learning outcomes for all.

Brunswick Secondary College was privileged to be invited to present a workshop on Day 2 of the North-West Region Principal’s Forum.   Staff  Rohan McCarthy (BSC Literacy  Leader and Head of  Learning - English) and Jess Sartori,  (BSC eLearning Coordinator and Head of Learning - Science) presented a workshop titled “Building practice excellence through a common language and collaboration”

Rohan and Jess outlined the professional learning the school staff have undertaken since 2015 which focused strongly on the Literacy for Learning framework and which has led to the development of Brunswick Secondary College’s Instructional Model and the use of ICT tools such as Office 365 to foster teacher collaboration.  I congratulate Rohan and Jess on their presentation which was met with positive feedback from participants and requests for visits to our school to learn more about our initiatives.

Reports - Semester 1

Students and parents are now able to access the Semester 1 reports.  It is beneficial for all students and parents to reflect on the feedback provided by teachers on learning progress.   Students concluded the semester with a strong dedication to examinations and School Assessed Tasks.  The results of these tasks will be used next term when meeting with students from Year 8-11 regarding their subject selections for 2018.  This work will commence in Term 3.

Building a better BSC

There is exciting progress with our building works, particularly in regard to the canteen and Food classrooms with concrete slab having cured and the exterior steel frameworks going up this final week of term.   Whilst students and staff are off-site, the holidays will provide an even greater opportunity for building to progress, so we look forward to seeing the results of work completed over the break.

Facing the footlights

The first week of Term 3 also brings the whole-school production to stage - Grease will be performed on Friday July 21 and Saturday July 22 at the Clocktower Centre. BSC has fast earned a reputation of excellence with previous productions,  and we have no doubt Grease will deliver the same quality entertainment.   The company of Grease has worked hard throughout Semester 1 in preparation and are excited to share the show with the community - even performing this week as a 'flash mob' during  one lunchtime!

We warmly invite staff, students and families to come along  and show your support for them all when they perform at Clocktower Centre. We have no doubt you will enjoy the show!

You can book tickets by telephone 9243 9191 or simply purchasing online - just click HERE.  We look forward to seeing you there.

In the meantime, I wish all of our school community a safe and rejuvenating holiday period.  I look forward to seeing everyone again on Monday 17 July.
