PALS
Over the last 5 weeks, 15 year 4, 5 and 6 Peninsula students joined me for an after school class from the PAL’s class (Peninsula Accelerated Learning), that we have operating at our school. Students are nominated by a teacher, or can register an interest in a course that is on offer.
This term, students could participate in a range of specialist programs. Mine was under the umbrella of Design Technology and was called ‘Interior Designer’.
My kids explored the concepts of the principles of design and how colours relate to each other. We looked at what is trending in interior design as well as potential careers in this domain. We created a mood board, and asked a family member to be a client, where we prepared a design brief listing the clients wants and needs. Several students became game changers and inspired their families to redecorate/refurbish or renovate a space in the home. How chuffed was I!
In the practical component of the course, we designed some planter boxes and re-purposed an 'op shop' lamp. The photos show a few examples of these.
The feedback from the class was really positive and I LOVED teaching it. It will be on again next year so watch this space.
