Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club has been running at Greensborough College for many years now on Friday mornings and it has become something that students look forward to at the end of each week. We are fortunate to have Justine and Fraser from All Saints Anglican church attend this year and we thank them very much for their service to our school community. Justine and Fraser are always bright and cheery even on these darkening colder Friday mornings. Justine and Fraser come with left over goodies from Watsonia’s Bakers Choice and they make lots of toasted cheese sandwiches (by far the most popular item on the menu). The church also provides juice and we have apples on hand (by far one of the best fast foods ever). Some of our students are regular helpers (Kobey D., Alicia G., Abhi B., and Jayden T.) and we thank them for their service too.

Breakfast is (still) the most important meal of the day! Breakfast is an important meal because it breaks the overnight fasting period, replenishes our supply of glucose and provides other essential nutrients to keep our energy levels up throughout the day, and helps teenagers concentrate and learn in the classroom!

It is not uncommon for teenagers to try skipping breakfast! It helps getting up out of bed to get to school if you just have to put your uniform on and leave the house. However, taking a little extra time to have something to eat has many health benefits. See below for some ideas of quick breakfasts that are easy to grab on the way out the door or to get ready the night before:

  • Single serve of whole-grain, low- sugar cereal
  • Yoghurt
  • Fresh Fruit (banana, apple, mandarin)
  • Whole-grain muffin
  • Trail mix
