Reconciliation Week

Grounded in Truth – Walk Together With Courage

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and successes and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving understanding and resolution in Australia so all of us feel included.

The dates for NRW are the same each year: May 27-June 3rd. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision in turn.

Melbourne’s north-east was the homeland of the Wurundjeri Willam people who belonged to the Woiworung language group and greater Kulin Nation.

Banyule City Council website has more information about the Aboriginal heritage in the Greensborough  area. https://www.banyule.vic.gov.au/Services/Planning/Heritage/Aboriginal-Heritage.

Reconciliation Australia is the national Not For Profit organisation that works towards building relationships, respect and trust between the broader Australian community and our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Check out the website for more information about our first peoples. https://www.reconciliation.org.au/

To mark NRW we ran a fun lunchtime activity on Friday 31st May. Students were invited to come to the art room, paint their hand in their own creative way and place their handprint on a banner to demonstrate unity and support for the many indigenous students we have at Greensborough College. We have approximately 80 handprints on our banner and this will be displayed in the wellbeing hub. We are sure it will add some bright light to our calming, inclusive wellbeing space.

Thanks especially to Jahnvi & Hannah F from year 12 and Briley from year 8 for their early enthusiasm and assistance with setting up!!
