Principal's Report

Engaging with our parents and community

There are a number of events scheduled for term 3 where families will be invited to engage with our school, in a range of ways.   These events are listed below and as the time nears families will be informed with further details. I have outlined each event here so that you can “save the date” for those events that are of importance or interest to you.

Tuesday 23rd July - Careers Expo  (Year 8-11) 5.00-7.30pm

This is an annual event, where Domain areas showcase subjects on offer for students in Years 9 to 12.  We will also have information booths from the tertiary sector and other pathways agencies at the event.  Students and parents are expected to attend to enquire further about pathways options.

Saturday 27th July - Working Bee

8.00-12.00 Midday

The Greensborough College community is invited to gather on this day to work together to clean up and maintain the grounds and facilities.  This newsletter has further information about the event.

Wednesday 31st July - Camps International 6.00-7.00pm

Families are invited to attend this information session about our partnership with Camps International, an organisation whose goal is to create “ethical journeys with impact.” We are planning a trip to Borneo in early 2021 so this session is for parents. Students will have a presentation delivered to them during assemblies.

Monday 12th-Friday 16th August - Morrisby Counselling for Year 9 Students and Parents

All Year 9 students have participated in the Morrisby Careers Assessment Program this week.  Once the results are available, qualified counsellors will meet with students and their parents to analyse these results and to develop goals for a Career Action Plan.

Wednesday 14th August - Year 10 Course Counselling for 2020 11.30 am – 7.30 pm

Year 10 students, with their parents, will have a course counselling session to assist them to select their senior school program for 2020 (VCE, VCAL and VET)

Friday 16th August - Semester 1 Awards: Junior School – 9.00-10.30 &

 Senior School – 11.00-12.30

Academic Excellence, Commitment to Learning and Community contribution will be recognised at the awards ceremonies. Parents will be notified if their child is receiving an award and will be invited to the ceremony.

Friday 23rd August - Presentation Ball

This annual event will commence in term 3 with rehearsals on Monday evenings at the school. Year 11 students and their partners will participate in this rite of passage that has been a tradition at Greensborough College for many years. The event will be held at Melrose Receptions.

Thursday 5th September - Finishing the Line - Elevate Parent Seminar

Another parent seminar in the series of seminars we have run this year that focus on developing a range of study habits in our students.

Wednesday 18th September -  Parent Teacher Interviews

International Travel

We are also pleased to announce that planning is well underway for the following international tours:

  •  Italy Cultural Tour – October 2020
  • G’Day USA – Cultural and Homestay Tour – January 2021
  • Borneo – Community Projects – April 2021

Visitors to our school

As mentioned in previous newsletters, there is a sign-in process for visitors to our school. We ask that visitors report to the reception in the Administration building. Occasionally, members of the public use Greensborough College as a thoroughfare. We have approached people and explained the procedures and referenced the Child Safety legislation. We are asking our community to follow the requests of Greensborough College staff. We ask the community to use the surrounding streets to make their way through the suburb and not use the school grounds as a short cut, especially during school and work hours between 8am and 5.00pm.

No drop off/pick up in school car parks

I would also like to remind families that there is no drop off or pick up zone in the school car parks. Please drop off and pick up outside the school grounds.

Condolences to Mr Graeme Scott

It is with sadness that I inform the school community of the passing of Andrea Scott, our Assistant Principal, Graeme Scott’s wife.  Andrea has been ill for a number of years and Graeme and his son, Chris, have been caring for her. The school community extends its deepest sympathies to Graeme and Chris. The celebration of Andrea’s life will take place on Wednesday 26th June. If you would like details please contact Angela at the office.
