Senior Years and Wellbeing

Wellbeing

Many parents contact me looking for practical advice about parenting skills, supporting their children through difficult times and equipping their young people with effective strategies to cope in everyday life.  This week my focus is on providing links to reliable and trustworthy websites that parents may find useful.

Reach Out Parents

https://parents.au.reachout.com/

Reach Out offer excellent information for parents; they also have a page designed for young people. On the parent page, information can be offered through self-help content, community forums, and the best part…one on one support for parents. This is a free and confidential service with a professional family and parenting coach and can be done at times that suit you.  The parenting forums can also be anonymous with likeminded parents coming together to offer solutions as to what has worked for them or to seek advice in challenging situations.

Raising Children

https://raisingchildren.net.au/grown-ups/services-support/about-services-support/helplines

Raising Children has fantastic information for parents throughout the lifespan from birth right up to adulthood. They have excellent links to other supports parents may need in each state/territory. Raising children also offers helpful links to parent helplines and hotlines. The information also has links for parents looking for support with raising young people with a disability or autism (ASD). I particularly like the progression through the different stages of childhood and I can clearly see practical ways to communicate with my own children around different issues.

Parentline – 13 22 89

https://www.education.vic.gov.au/parents/services-for-parents/Pages/parentline.aspx?Redirect=1

Parentline is a phone service for parents and carers of children from birth to 18 years old. It offers confidential and anonymous counselling and support on parenting issues from 8am to midnight, 7 days a week.  There are qualified counsellors that can support parents with areas such as child behaviour and development, parent/ carer child relationships, education, bullying, living with teenagers, family violence or family breakdown and parental stress.

The Parents Website- Independent Schools

https://www.theparentswebsite.com.au/

This website has relevant information for parents and very practical articles on parenting in the 21st Century. You can subscribe to the site, and this will enable you to get regular email updates on the latest news, views and features on The Parents’ Website.

I hope you find these links helpful. I have certainly found them informative and I use a lot of these practical strategies when working with students at school on a daily basis.
