Animal caretakers - holiday helpers needed

Darling the guinea pig

Arlington Animals

Dear Arlington Families,

We are seeking volunteer families to assist with the care of the Arlington animals  from 13 December through 13 January (or beyond).

We are seeking  a family/families to take the Arlington guinea pigs for the upcoming summer break. The school has an enclosure for them to be kept in, along with dry food and bedding supplies. Volunteer families need a cool shady spot for the hutch to sit in the garden.

If you are able to help out, please sign-up here.

Guinea pigs are very clean animals. They eat small amounts all day. They graze on their hay.

Bedding

  • Remove old bedding
  • Wipe out hutch with warm soapy water and dry
  • Reline with several layers of newspaper
  • Layer with pet hay
  • At night put a towel over 1/2 of hutch and put inside

Handling and Cuddles

Guinea Pigs should be approached slowly and quietly.

They do not liked to be screamed at.

Guinea Pigs have great peripheral vision so if you need to catch them, sneak up behind.

Do not cuddle them or squeeze them too tight, because this will harm them.

Always take care picking them up and putting them down.

We are also seeking volunteers to feed the ducks and hens, which staycation on campus over the summer holidays.  They have simple needs - food and water - and regularly provide an egg in thanks.  Like the guinea pigs, they love fresh greens and water and we have supplies of their grain at school.  If you can help with this please sign up here.

Enjoy, and thank you for taking care of our Arlington animals.
