10s & 11s Wilsons Prom Hike

Reflections from the participants

Wilsons Prom Hike to Sealers Cove

On Wednesday the 14th of November we headed to Wilsons Prom to take on the mammoth task of hiking 20 kilometres to Sealers Cove.  We camped in tents for 2 nights and to our surprise, we had some furry visitors through the night.  We discovered that the wombats at the prom love lollies!  On the first night we went to the beach and scrambled along the amazing rock formations and dipped our feet into the ocean.  It was so much fun just hanging around and making up games to play together.

The next day was the day of the big hike.  Some of us were nervous, but we were all excited.  The weather was perfect and we enjoyed some beautiful scenery on our way to Sealers Cove.  We passed a pristine creek with a mini waterfall, and what we think was an old mine tunnel.  There was so much conversation along the way and even though we knew each other pretty well, we found out more about each other.  We were getting tired and just when people started asking how far way we were from Sealers cove, it appeared!  The beach was so beautiful!  We had a dip in the ocean, some time just lying on the beach and enjoying each other’s company, and scrambling on the ever challenging Whale Rock!  We were all very sad when it was time to head back.  The walk home was harder than on the way, but we were determined to make good time, so we charged on.  Needless to say, we were in bed early that night!

The next morning, we packed up our campsite and headed home, not before a stop at the fantastic Squeaky Beach though.  It had the best sand dunes ever!  We are still contemplating why the sand is so squeaky...and we enjoyed playing hide and seek in the rocks and exploring rock pools.  We were all really tired, and even though we were ready to go home, were sad to leave such an beautiful place, a natural wonder to us.

Thank you so much to the parents who joined us.  You were an amazing help and it was great to spend time together.  This camp was such an amazing way to end the year, as we all head off to a new chapter.
