Year 9 History

The Australian War Memorial
Year 9 History students had the opportunity to explore the Australian War Memorial Artefacts Box during class this month. The Australian War Memorial loans boxes to schools filled with items from World War 1. Students tried on uniforms, which led to discussions about the height and build of soldiers. Students read postcards and letter sent to soldiers on the warfront. They looked at water cans and cooking utensils used by soldiers and were intrigued at the ingenuity of a frying pan folding out of food tin. Finally students had a chance to play “two up” and make comparisons to the ease of gambling in 2018. Overall a worthwhile fact finding event for all involved.
