Vale Class of 2018

These final weeks for our Year 12 students have been a reflective and emotional time as they completed their final assessments, finalised course and pathways selections and prepared for final exams. I know Greensborough College has laid the foundations for the Graduating Class of 2018 to be thoughtful, caring, compassionate people who will be positive contributors to society. On behalf of the school community, I wish all of our graduates the very best in everything they set out to do and remind them to harness a growth mindset and a can-do attitude. At our farewell assembly this week the words of American Poet and Civil Right Activist, Maya Angelou, resonated when she had cause to reflect on her life.

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”

We wish all of our students the very best during the exam period and we look forward to the final event that marks the Class of 2018’s transition from school to broader horizons, the Valedictory Dinner, on Friday 7th December.

Preparing for exams

As we head deep into the examination and assessment season, it is a timely reminder to consider the best preparation for the students. Psychologist, Michael Carr- Gregg, gives some great advice to students and parents about preparing for exams. Specifically, it is important that students get plenty of sleep the night before an exam, with nine hours being the recommended amount. It is also recommended to start the day by having a good breakfast of eggs, yoghurt or berries and then studying for 50 minutes at a time, with a 15 minute break. 2019 College Leaders

The recent application process undertaken by our 2019 Senior College leaders was a terrific experience for all involved. I was privileged to be a part of the selection panel, to listen to the hopes and aspirations of these young men and women. Their passion and commitment to Greensborough College is commendable. I look forward to working with this student leadership team to implement many of their ideas to build school pride and enhance the lives of our students.

School Review – Pre Review Self Evaluation

Parents and guardians are invited to participate in a workshop to evaluate the College’s progress over the past three years and to set some direction for the future. Three key questions will be asked: How have we gone? How do we know? What do we need to do next?

The workshop will be held on Wednesday 14th November, 6.00-7.00pm in the APAC building, which is accessed via Nepean Street. For catering purposes please RSVP to Angela Lawson on 9433 266.

Stage 2 Building Announcement

This week, Education Minister, James Merlino and Member for Bundoora, Colin Brooks visited our school to announce that with a re-elected Labour Government, Greensborough College will receive a stage 2 of the building project valued at 9.9 million dollars. Initial plans include demolition of the remaining B and C wings and the building of a new STEM Centre, Language Centre and general purpose classrooms. This is exciting news for the school community. Colin Brooks’ advocacy of our school has been fantastic and he has influenced the party leaders to ensure that Greensborough College’s rebuilding program stays on the agenda.
