Junior Hockey

College Hurricanes took on Monivae Knights, and came away with a well-earned 3-0 victory. The team played some expansive hockey. Rupert Merrin and Ben Walker had busy games, and were energetic throughout. Thanks to Mrs Fiona Hermon for coaching the team during the fixture.

Division 4 College Crusaders were beaten 4-0 by Coleraine Gold. The team played the match with 9 players, and performed well against a stronger opposition. Olivia Allen played a superb match as sweeper. On numerous occasions she cleared the 23m zone with clever play. Emily Ash was outstanding at fullback, as was Will Ash in goals.

College Chiefs defeated Dunkeld 5-3 in a highly entertaining match. Mitzi Adamson led the team well. Ted Koch played his best game for College, and scored three goals. Kellan Sander again shone in goals, and performed numerous saves to keep the team in the match.

College Rebels went down to the top of the competition side Demons, 1-0. The team performed well, with Nick Hoskyns playing a storming match, ably supported by Christian te-Boekhorst and Jorja Hermon. The Chiefs had a number of scoring opportunities, and were unlucky not to score.

Boys' Hockey

With the Open team having the bye last weekend, our attention was solely on the Under 16 game between the two College teams.

As usual, the game was a hard fought and close affair.  Gold made the early running and appeared on top but were unable to find the net.  Blue's defensive work was solid and goalie Will Ash made several important saves. At half-time, the score remained at 0-0 and the game was much more even in the second half before a Sami Zehir goal midway through the half saw Blue take the lead.  Desperate attacking by Gold dominated most of the final ten minutes but Blue held firm to record a fine victory.

There was plenty of endeavour from both sides and, in the end, perhaps a little more poise at key moments told the story of Blue's success in what was a fairly scrappy game.  Better players included Sami Zehir, Euan Sutherland, Peter Finch and James Sutherland for the winners and Oli Hoskyns, Lachie Holcombe, Lachie Armstrong and Reagan Simons for Gold.  Both sides will look for improvement before their next meeting!

Finally, it was good to see Jack Green back on the field after his hand injury.  It was also good to see Harry Beal demonstrate the value of wearing a properly fitted mouthguard!

Division 2 Men News

At Monday night’s Association meeting, it was confirmed that a “veterans’ Team” will be arranged to play the team with the bye in the under 16 competition.  This will commence, in all likelihood, on Saturday 28 May.  The “oldies” will be restricted in their ability to hit the ball and will be introduced simply to fill the bye for a number of weeks.  The games involving the Barbarians (as the team will be known) will not be for competition points.  Further information and arrangements will be advised as they are confirmed.
