Deputy Principal's Report

Welcome to all our new students and staff who have become part of our community, we have had busy start to the year with lots of new students from variety of areas and schools who have become welcome additions to our school.

Year 8

The Year 8 cohort have settled well into the main school environment and are working well on assessment and skill building.

In Maths they are about to start working on Financial Maths, learning all about how to run budgets and be financially successful.

All Year 8 students are reminded to supplement all their work with their Maths Online activities.

Year 8 English students have been immersed in the narrative and techniques of poets and poetry, writing insightful responses to some famous pieces. Year 8 are also enjoying their wide reading program which is part of the school Literacy Program, book boxes have been purchased with all the latest teen fiction and non–fiction texts. Students begin every lesson with ten minutes silent reading; the program is designed to focus on reading, vocabulary and creative recreation.

Literacy is the ability to read, view, write, design, speak and listen in a way that allows us to communicate effectively and to make sense of the world.

Year 10

MINIMUM STANDARD

REFORM 1: Establish a minimum standard of literacy and numeracy for the award of the HSC

  • Students will be given a number of opportunities from Year 10 to Year 12 to demonstrate they have met the standard.
  • Students who fall short of the standard by the end of Year 12 will receive the Record of School Achievement (RoSA) and have five years after leaving school to pass an online NESA literacy and numeracy test to receive an HSC.
  • This reform will allow schools to work with parents to identify as early as possible students at risk of not meeting the minimum standard at the end of Year 10. It will identify students who require intervention and support to reach an appropriate standard to help them succeed in life after secondary school.

All Year 10 will participate in the online Minimum Standards Tests, Week 2 Term 2.  Students will be given an opportunity to experience the online platform during Maths and English lessons weeks 9 and 10.
