Supporting remote student learning

Students can access quality free online resources to assist them with study and research through the State Library of Victoria and the Darebin Library Services.  All students will find these resources invaluable with a wealth of quality information they can use throughout their secondary education, not just in the present situation.

State Library of Victoria (SLV) online resources

This is a highly recommended guide for all students.  It provides clear step by step instructions suitable for all year levels (11 minutes).

To join the SLV online go to https://psr.slv.vic.gov.au/ fill in the online form, an SMS will be sent to your mobile for you to activate your membership. 

Darebin Libraries – homework help

Darebin Libraries are promoting their free online resources to all students in the area and  are keen to work with you during this challenging time. While their physical libraries are closed, students can still access their free eResources.  See the  short pdf guide to using the homework help resources on the Darebin Libraries website.

 

With a Darebin Library membership,  students can access all the eResources for free through the Darebin Libraries website.  If you do not have a Darebin Libraries membership, you can join  online and receive a temporary membership number that will allow access to all eResources.

Wheelers' Wellness Collection of eBooks for schools

Wheeler’s ePlatform has created a new Wellness Collection of digital library resources for schools. This collection has been designed in consultation with school guidance counsellors, librarians, and wellbeing practitioners to support the mental health challenges youth face today. You will find a range of topics from bullying, anxiety and depression to resources that introduce the practice of mindfulness, self-compassion and gratitude. There are 303 eBooks and audiobooks to browse in the Wheeler’s eBook library database collection which can be accessed through the John Cain Library webpage.

  1. Open the John Cain Library webpage. Select the link eBooks and Audiobooks or click on the image ‘Discover new worlds in eBooks’ to open the eBook Library.  
  2. Sign into the Wheelers eBooks using your Compass ID and password. If you have not signed in with SSO when accessing the John Cain Library page, you will be prompted to sign in to eBooks using your student compass ID and password.

Username: northcote\Compass ID      Password: Compass password  (remember to use the \ backslash)

This opens the complete Wheelers eBook and Audiobook collection in one place.  You can use  the search box or browse by clicking on 'Wellness Resources' title located directly below the start browsing button. This will bring up all 303 eResources in this collection.  Sort the collection by most popular, new releases, recently added or alphabetically, using the dropdown menu.
