YEAR 10 EXCEL SPORT

UV Frisbee State Championships

On Tuesday March 30, while the rest of the school had the day off, the Year 10 EXCEL Sport class competed in the UV Frisbee State Championships in Parkville. The class had been practicing for several weeks and were excited to showcase their skills against schools from all over Victoria. The boys team played 6 x 30 minute games throughout the day and competed well against some very accomplished teams. They finished the day 10th overall. The girls team also played 6 games and after the preliminary rounds finished 2nd in their pool to progress to the semi-finals. We played against Covenant College and were narrowly defeated 8-6. This meant we progressed to the SSV State Championship grand final against Canterbury GSC. The Patterson River girls jumped to a 4-0 lead early in the game and then defended tirelessly to take out the State Championship title 7-3. A fantastic achievement.

YEAR 10 EXCEL SPORT

Assist at Primary School Athletics Carnival

During first term, the Year 10 EXCEL Sport class was invited to attend and assist at the Carrum Primary School and Seaford North Primary School Athletics Carnivals. All of the students were divided into small groups, and then given an event to either marshal, record or measure. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase our program in the community and demonstrate the students’ ability to coordinate and supervise a sporting event. I was extremely proud of the maturity and responsibility displayed by the students throughout the day. The Carrum and Seaford North Primary School communities were highly complementary of our program and grateful for the assistance. Well done Year 10s.

YEAR 8 EXCEL SPORT

3x3 Basketball Carnival

The Year 8 EXCEL Sport Class attended the Junior 3 x 3 Basketball Carnival at the State Basketball Centre on Tuesday 20th April. There were 37 boys’ teams and 32 girls’ teams competing from all over Victoria. Patterson River Secondary College entered 3 boys and 3 girls’ teams in the event. All teams played between 6 to 7 six minute games. There was music pumping loudly and rapid fire high intensity games played, reflective of the Olympic Sport environment we will see at the Tokyo Olympics later this year. All Patterson River SC teams played competitively throughout the day and improved collectively. A couple of the boys’ teams were stiff to miss a finals berth after winning 5 and 4 games respectively in the pool games. Well done to the whole class.

YEAR 10 EXCEL SPORT

 3x3 Basketball Carnival

The Year 10 EXCEL Sport Class attended the Intermediate 3 x 3 Basketball Carnival at the State Basketball Centre on Friday 23rd April. Patterson River Secondary College entered 2 boys and 2 girls’ teams in the event. It was a challenging day for the class as the competition at this level is extremely strong from many basketball academies throughout Melbourne. The group demonstrated a level of determination and resilience throughout the day, and had many moments where they took it right up to some very talented basketballers. Well done.

YEAR 7 EXCEL SPORT

School Futsal Titles

On Wednesday 5th May the Year 7 EXCEL Sport class entered two girls’ teams and two boys’ teams in the School Futsal Titles held at Monash University Clayton. This is always a tough competition against schools that have been training for this event since the start of the year and are comprised of elite soccer players. It was a massive learning curve for the Patterson River Secondary College students in resilience, perseverance and rapid skill development. Mr. Clark and I were extremely proud of the effort shown by all of the students to continue to compete throughout a tough day and watch them grow as soccer players. Both boys’ teams played off in the semi-finals, and one of the girls teams played off in the 13 Girls School Futsal Titles Grand Final, finishing runners up in the event and receiving a silver medal. A fantastic day.

UNDER 17 BASKETBALL Victorian College Championships

The Year 9 and 10 EXCEL Sport Program entered two teams in the Division 2 Victorian College Championships at the Frankston Basketball Centre. Our Year 9 and 10 students competed extremely well throughout the day and progressively improved in team offense and defence. It was a pleasure watching our ball movement in transition and the teams working cohesively. We narrowly missed playing finals but represented the College with distinction throughout the day. Thank you to Mr. Bell for your assistance.
