Prep Oral Language Program
Reading and writing development flows from oral language and vocabulary. The Preps have been working hard during Investigation sessions to develop their oral language skills. They have practised speaking in full sentences in their roles as reporter and photographer. Students also practise asking questions starting with ‘who, what, where, when, why and how’.
Our oral language program is play based and student lead. Drawing on our literacy and numeracy program students are able to choose a station to work at, choices include:
- Reading
- Writing
- Maths
- Dramatic Play
- Sensory
- Collage / construction
Students may choose to retell a story using pictures, create a character using playdough or become more familiar with maths concrete materials to assist them with their counting. A ‘student interest’ station is included to promote student agency.
