Teaching and Learning

Welcome back to Term 2!
There is a growing research evidence base supporting the link between school partnerships and networks and enhanced student outcomes. The contemporary literature recognises that collaboration beyond the school, including with parents/carers/kin, services, industry and networks, is a critical driver of school improvement.
One way that Concord establishes partnerships beyond the classroom is to invite volunteers to support our programs. To ensure that volunteers feel confident and to also comply with our Child Safety policy we are offering information sessions for people interested in volunteering. The roles that volunteers undertake vary in different sections, for example; attending excursions, costume design, sporting skills, reading and resourcing. There will be two Volunteer Training sessions running and you can attend either campus depending on what suits your circumstances.

The research also states that ‘When schools and families work together, children can become more engaged with their school work, achieve better academically, stay in school longer and develop better social skills. Effective partnerships enrich wellbeing, achievement and engagement by focusing on student needs’. Another opportunity for partnerships to be strengthened is through our Open Days during Education Week! You will receive more information about this event by your child’s teacher closer to the date.

The theme for this year’s Education Week is ‘Building Connections’, which celebrates the connections between schools and local communities and strengthens bonds with families and carers.
Concord Café
Another community achievement is the Concord Café at the Bundoora Campus which is now operational, thanks to a lot of hard work by Brooke, Bronwyn and the 11/12 staff and students. We invite all members of our community to come along and purchase a coffee and/or a small bite to eat as students in 11/12 develop their business skills. It is located near the back carpark and is open to the community between 8:30am -9:15am Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday! I recommend the skinny flat white and jelly slice, they both are a favourite of mine!
