Wurrin News

Years 8 & 9

NAPLAN has begun

This week our Year 9 students have started NAPLAN for 2021. The Wurrin Hub is extremely impressed with how the students have approached NAPLAN and the hard work the year level has been putting in to complete the assessments they need too. The Year 9 cohort will be participating in NAPLAN until the 21st of May.

Morrisby - Year 9

My Career Insights – Morrisby Career Profile is a program for all Year 9 students in Victorian Government Secondary Schools.

Deciding what to do after you leave school is not easy. Understanding the options available to you in the first place is hard enough, but then working out what you are best suited to and how you can achieve your goals is difficult.

This program will help your Year 9 child to:

  • Learn about what skills and abilities they could bring to a job.
  • Find out about what jobs match their abilities, interests and personality, and the subjects they need for those jobs.

As part of the program, your child will:

  • Complete a series of online questions and quizzes (on the Morrisby Profile website) during English classes during the week of 24 – 28th May 2021
  • Receive a Morrisby Profile Report showing the results from the questions and quizzes, and possible jobs that match their abilities, interests and personality.
  • Have a 30-minute meeting with a Morrisby-trained Career Practitioner, who will explain the report to your child. You can attend this meeting.

If your child does not participate in the program, or does not complete the questions and quizzes, a Morrisby Profile Report will not be created for them.

Parental consent is required for students to participate in the program

Permission forms are being distributed this week,  we seek your support in returning these to the Wurrin Hub by Wednesday 19th May 2021.

As we approach the course and subject selection period this is an ideal time for students to take a moment to reflect on who they are, and what they might want from a career.

The Morrisby profile is used as a tool to inspire and give students guidance on how to find career and study options that suit them.

Uniform

The Wurrin hub has noticed an increase in non school uniform items being worn. Students are not to be wearing track suit pants, hoodies, football shorts, leggings on their own, exercise tights and puffer jackets.

The Wurrin Hub will be making phone calls home for those not wearing correct uniform.

SWF Group Bairnsdale is where you can find Bairnsdale Secondary College Uniform. They have a wide range of products including school pants, jumpers and jackets.

Bairnsdale Secondary College is always welcoming uniform donations, if you have any uniform that no longer fits and you want to get rid of.

If you require assistance with school uniform please contact the Wurrin hub on 5150 4820 or wurrin@bairnsdalesc.vic.edu.au

8D Textiles - Mrs Ellett

Mrs Ellett's Year 8 class has been working on tie dying this term. Each student has learnt about the process of making tie dye items and are doing a great job on creating their pieces.

Math Tutoring Review - Madison Flynn

I have been fortunate enough to be a part of the Math tutoring program. This is run by an amazing teacher Mr Telford.  Mr Telford values what we want to learn which is something I love about the class. He is open to help revise previous math skills as well as challenging me with new ones. I enjoy having people I know in the class who are willing to help when the work is hard. Overall, I appreciate the variety in the work and the support I receive.
