Year 7

Highlighting 7H

It has been a busy start to the year in 7H. Along with establishing friendships and classroom routines we have been learning the attributes of being a good learner. What it looks like to give effort, seeing mistakes as learning opportunities, positive self-belief and setting goals. In English we have been working on creative writing through looking at characters traits and structure, while also using the traits of voice and ideas to improve our written content. Persuasive writing has also been a focus through analysing why we persuade and how to craft a persuasive written piece. Lots of verbal ‘arguments’ in class have been fun! Students have been working in literature groups to analyse and discuss texts using a range of comprehension strategies.

With NAPLAN on the horizon and arriving this week, working mathematically and problem solving have been a big focus. Ensuring we use a range of strategies and using the most efficient strategy has enabled us to work through challenging problems. Furthermore we have been touching base on a range of topics including measurement, area, perimeter, statistics and probability. Good luck for NAPLAN 7H, trust in your abilities and try your best. You’ve got this!

7H Pastoral

In Pastoral, 7H looked at statistics on gender- norms and negative behaviours. Students worked in small groups finding out why there are gender differences in heath and social issues, as well as how some gender norms and expectations might influence this pattern.

Humanities 7H

Year 7 classes have been looking at the importance of water and how it impacts societies. They have also been looking at the rainfall patterns of Australia and how it is influenced by the land. With this knowledge students have been preparing overlay maps that compare where people live in Australia and rainfall patterns. This advanced map style shows three different maps, and highlights the link between rainfall and natural features, and how capital cities are linked to the amount of rain.
