Principal's Message

9

Welcome to week 4 of the term! What a horrid day Monday was! I am referring to the rain of course.

I have definitely learnt that we are a dry weather school and through no fault of their own, Monday we had students “drenched”  and often having to be wet all day. This was also raised as a concern at the consultation nights held across the last two weeks. We took many photographs Monday to try and reflect the urgency of finishing the building program at the College as swiftly as possible. PLUS, I have purchased a really big umbrella!

Consultation Nights

Thank you so much to all the families who turned out to support the College’s agenda of constant improvement. The opportunity to have a voice, was indeed taken up and the feedback provided very useful. Our work now is to determine the actions we need to take.

To support this, Wednesday afternoon, the entire leadership group spent four hours off- site to begin this next stage of work. The afternoon (1.30 pm to 5.30 pm) was very productive and this package of work will be shared with the community soon. (We need to unpack it all with the whole staff first, then the whole College community.)

There was a very clear message of support for the Careers profile in the College plus the Morrisby program. The timing is great, because the Morrisby work is about to kick off again. Morrisby Career Profile is a program for all Year 9 students in Victorian Government Secondary Schools.  At a time when students are deciding their future studies and pathways, having the knowledge and insight into their strengths, interests and aspirations is invaluable.

Please, make sure you read the outline of the Morrisby Career Profile included in Wurrin and Career news. We need parental consent for students to undertake the online profile. If you need any more information, make contact with the Careers team, Sue and Michelle and they will help you out.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN has arrived at BSC and will be with us for the next two weeks. Tuesday was day 1 and went perfectly! Thanks so much to all the ICT staff and teachers who put in a massive effort, in particular Kristin Bury who led this work. NAPLAN  was not administered in 2020 due to COVID (I didn’t think I would ever see that happen), but it is a critical piece of information around student progress from Grade 3 all the way to VCE outcomes. If you are keen to learn more, I would be very happy to walk you through the reports showing the degree of predictability between NAPLAN and VCE outcomes. Plus, when this year’s individual results are released, then we can talk specifically about your child’s progress.

Enough from me, as there is loads in the newsletter!

Talk soon. Always happy to chat.
