COBIS competition results/Výsledky soutěže organizace COBIS

Sofia Nemeth's poem which was entered in the COBIS Poetry Competition, ‘Connections’, was highly commended by judges and received a very high score. One judge commented, that it was “Very lucid about an experience we've all had, although it is so often difficult to articulate”. This is quite an achievement as there were more than 360 entries from 88 schools around the world and the quality of entries was extremely high.

Báseň Sofie Nemeth, která byla přihlášena do soutěže organizace COBIS o nejlepší báseň na téma „Spojení“, získala pochvalu rozhodčích a velmi vysoké skóre. Jeden z porotců uvedl, že to bylo „velmi jasné a představovalo zkušenost, kterou všichni máme, i když je tak často těžké ji formulovat“. Je to skvělý úspěch, protože do soutěže bylo zasláno více než 360 příspěvků z 88 škol z celého světa a kvalita básní byla extrémně vysoká.

A person who I call my friend waves at me

I sit at her table

We start talking

Our day, our lives, our struggles

But although she’s sending herself to me

I receive nothing

I’ve thrown one end of my rope to her

She does the same

She catches my end

Hers doesn’t reach me

I hang a message on my rope

And watch it slide to her

She sends one back

I see it

But I can’t reach it

I go back home

It feels like

I haven’t talked to anyone

LAMDA results/Výsledky zkoušek LAMDA

Congratulations to the Theatre students with their exceptional results in this year’s LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) exams. 95% of our students took either the Silver Medal (Grade 7) or Gold Medal (Grade 8) with 100% pass rate. Students in Year 6 achieved particularly impressive outcomes with 71% receiving a Distinction, the highest grade awardable.

Gratulujeme studentům dramatické výchovy k jejich vynikajícím výsledkům v letošních zkouškách LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts). 95% našich studentů získalo stříbrnou medaili (stupeň 7) nebo zlatou medaili (stupeň 8) a všichni uspěli. Studenti 6. ročníku dosáhli obzvláště působivých výsledků, jelikož 71% z nich získalo vyznamenání, což je nejvyšší stupeň, který může být udělen.

This year’s Václav Havel Scholarship concert, which was held online, has raised a very impressive 130,000 CZK towards a scholarship for a second Václav Havel Scholar! The student organisers want to say a big ‘thank you’ to the whole ECP community for their donations.

Letošní koncert na podporu Stipendia Václava Havla, který se konal online, vydělal velmi působivých 130 000 Kč na stipendium pro jeho druhého držitele. Organizační tým studentů děkuje celé komunitě ECP za dary.

The Lord Holme Prize for Service to the Community/Cena Lorda Holma za přínos komunitě

The Lord Holme Prize is awarded in memory of the Founder Chairman of the Governors of the English College. Any member of the school community can nominate a student who has worked hard for the school community or who has helped people in need. Teachers then vote for the winner of the overall award. Deadline for the nominations is 14th April.

Cena Lorda Holma za přínos komunitě se uděluje na památku zakládajícího předsedy správní rady Anglického gymnázia. Kterýkoli člen školní komunity může nominovat studenta, který usilovně pracuje pro školní komunitu nebo pomáhá lidem v nouzi. Učitelé poté budou hlasovat pro celkového vítěze. Uzávěrka nominací je 14. dubna.

ECP tips for distance learning/Tipy ECP pro distanční výuku

With the return to school widely discussed but still not definite, families with kids in schools in the Czech Republic are in it for the long haul with distance learning.

Reporters spoke with two experienced teachers from The English College in Prague to see how they are rising to the challenge of teaching from a distance and what advice they'd give parents and children on the other side of the screen. See more on this link.

S návratem do školy, který je široce diskutován, ale stále ještě není definitivní, jsou rodiny s dětmi ve školách v České republice součástí distanční výuky.

Language Teaching Online/Výuka jazyků online

Communication and collaboration during language lessons are essential and teachers over the past few months have been experimenting with many different tools to help bring back the collaborative element of language learning, sometimes in a way that is not even feasible in the physical classroom. Tools like the ones in these pictures have allowed students to quickly share their own and see other students' work. This exposure to the language helps to deepen comprehension skills and allows the students to develop a sense of online classroom community in which we can have some creative fun with the language and strengthen student-to-student communi-cation. In addition, as opposed to watching the lessons take place on a screen as a third party, active engagement with online tools such as Jamboard bring students back into the lesson and make their participation more meaningful.

Komunikace a spolupráce během výuky cizích jazyků jsou zásadní aspekty úspěchu a učitelé v posledních měsících experimentovali s mnoha různými nástroji, které jim pomohou přenést prvek aktivní spolupráce při výuce jazyků z prezenční do distanční formy, a to někdy i způsobem, který není ve fyzické učebně ani proveditelný. Nástroje, které můžete vidět na obrázcích, umožnily studentům rychle sdílet vypracovanou práci a také vidět práce ostatních studentů. Takovéto vystavení se jazyku pomáhá prohloubit dovednosti porozumění a umožňuje studentům rozvíjet smysl pro online komunitu ve třídě, ve které si můžeme s jazykem užít trochu kreativní zábavy a posílit komunikaci mezi studenty. A navíc, místo sledování výuky na obrazovce z pozice třetí strany, aktivní zapojení prostřednictvím online nástrojů, jako například Jamboard, vtáhne studenty do hodiny a zefektivní jejich účast.
